I have nothing bad to say giving up zero goals means it was a perfect night.

They just faced the team with the highest win %, highest goals differential, and no regulation losses, and beat them 2-0.
Great game

That's where most of my frustration comes from.
Overall this season the Flames have played great hockey. During the 3 consecutive losses, they truly deserved much better than 0 points.
Then they come out after holding a players-only meeting and despite showing much more emotion, play arguably their worst game of the season and rely on Markstrom for a heroic performance for the 2 points.
Showing emotion is great. Playing quality hockey is much more important. They only displayed one of those tonight, and it definitely wasn't playing quality hockey. They need to play the quality hockey they were playing for the majority of the losing streak and implement emotion into that.
If they come out of today's game thinking "That's how we gotta play from now on", I wouldn't be confident at all as a Flames fan.
It's great they got the 2 points. It's great that they showed emotion. It's also very arguable that they deserved a lucky win after unluckily coming away with 0 points the last 3 games. But anyone who thinks they actually deserved to win that game is out to lunch.

Jacob Markstrom ladies and gentlemen. Such a nice gift from the Vancouver Canucks.
Loved Backlund vs. Gallagher tonight from the opening whistle. The faceoff head battles, Gallagher baiting then embellishing on Backlunds crosscheck. The guy is a super pest on Matthew's level.
Perfect that the empty netter was a little payback with Backlund faking the shot on Gallagher before scoring.
The Flames had 33 shots on goal, this wasn't some one sided game. Great goaltending from both guys.

Much better effort from the Flames tonight, though likely a different game without Markstrom. I really liked Dube and Anderson's games tonight, thought they both played really well.

Great game, and they totally played well enough to deserve the great performance by Markstrom.

Markstrom is the nicest gift from the Canucks since Tkachuk. Then before that, Andersson.

Vancouver certainly has found some interesting ways to make the Flames a better team.

Last night, I was feeling this thinking about tonight's game:
This morning, I started feeling this:
Now, I bet half of the Calgary Flames feel like this with their shot blocking tonight:
Ugly win, but a win is a win and worth 4 points every game this season. Markstrom really stole this one and earned his paycheque tonight, but so did a lot of players throwing their bodies in front of pucks. Ugly win, but a win is something to build of off and hopefully get this team on a rhythm.
Good team win in supporting one another throughout the game. You can't count on Markstrom on bailing you out every game, but having him allows this team to reset a bit and gain some much needed confidence and rhythm.
On to the next one!

Really good games from Dube, Bennett, Leivo, Monahan and the entire defence. And Markstrom of course.

They win so it’s a good game. Little improvements, I didn’t see any 2 on 1 break aways, no brutal giveaways in our end and it wasn’t an easy night for Allen.

I don't know how people can say that this was our worst game. Did you even watch our previous game against MTL? The 4-2 final score was flattering to the Flames, because basically that was 4-0 game for 58 minutes.
Tonight may not have been our best game of the season, but we allowed ZERO goals. Yes, Markstrom made the saves, but the goalie is just as much a part of the team as any other player.
I thought our D played well enough that there were hardly any dangerous second-chances. That replay of Rasmus boxing out a player at the side of net as the puck slid across the crease was one such example.
It's one win to stop a 3-game losing streak. Now we build upon it, correct the mistakes (hint: discipline) and build it into a winning streak.

There was a 3 on 1 and MTL missed the net on the shot.
