Telus caves - halts porn downloads
Telus will no longer offer cell phone porn.
http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/184104
I thought protestors were missing the mark. If they are really upset about the delivery of porn, why not cancel cable or satellite tv service. Shaw, Rogers, Bell and Starchoice all offer pretty graphic pay-per-view hard core porn. But why stop there? Cancel your internet service too. The internet is the biggest portal on the planet for access to porn.
In in the Telus case, it's not like kids would have access to porn (unless your kid stole your credit card). The service required a credit card to access content (i.e. pay on demand). You would not have been able to charge the download to your account.

Yeah I think this is a case of older generations not getting the internets...
By that I mean they just think this is new technology and they don't see it as a user issue.
I mean if I photocopy my ass at work and post it around downtown, will they ban Xerox in the city?

Now what am I supposed to do on the train going home?
I think you hit it right on the mark, Fuzzy. Not only cable and internet, but does the publisher who makes their home & garden magazine also publish something like Playboy.

What is the big deal if a few kids see some porn? Are their actually any studies that prove that kids who see pornagraphic images have their lives alterred dramatically (or at all)?
I'm more concerned with the types of advertising young people are exposed to, than I am porn.

If anyone out there did not see pornography before you were 12 years old, please raise your hand.
Anyway, the people that protested about this should also cancel their home phone service. You can pay someone to talk dirty to you over that phone so...

*raises hand*
...
I think I was 13 or 14.
But yeah, stupid protesters poking their noses in the business of others. If you don't like pornography, don't buy it. Where do they get off (no pun intended) telling other adults what they can or cannot view?

Telus went about this all wrong when they launched it, and they're paying for it now.
Did you know that over 20% of all sites hit from web browsers on cell phones are porn related? Doesn't matter which company although those stats are for Telus, I assume that they're similar throughout. 20%!!!! One in 5! Telus tried to make it age restricted, but because of protests, we're going back to 10c/page of porn.
Had they used that little statistic, I think the protests would've been much quieter.

What a joke.
Absentee parents wanting Telus to parent thier children - its called being a parent instead of giving your bratt a time out or letting them scream like some banshee on the plane without shutting them up how about disciplinging your spawn.
This is absolutely one of the most disgusting and distubing things I have heard this month.

How about not giving your kid a cell phone in the first place?

I had my first cell phone when I was 13. Very conveniant and helped me out in a few situations where I could've been screwed.

And if they had offered porn back then, you could've learn to screw in multiple positions.

Agreed. Unless the idiot arch-bishop in Vancouver has cancelled, or chosen not to get, cable TV and the internet for the same reasons, he is nothing more than a hypocrite.

So, let me get this straight. The dumb-dumbs who were too stupid to realize that Telus has always offered porn on your cell phone with zero age restriction and were only alerted to the porn-on-cell fact when Telus did the right thing and added an age restriction to porn downloads have done nothing by this but actually remove the age restriction making it easier for under age people to view porn??
<takes breath>
People are soo stupid and will follow who ever yells the loudest.....baaaaahhh. I really do hope someone in the news tells this story from the right angle, as opposed to simply saying "Telus to offer porn". They should interview people and ask if they supported the idiots who wanted this new plan cancelled - and if they did, then ask them when they will be cancelling their internet connection.

Typical uptight North American reaction, not sure why anyone is surpised by it.
Sex is the most evil thing a kid can learn about. Better to teach them how to kill minorities with guns.
Though, putting porn on cell phones does increase the chance of porn being visible in public areas. I know I personally don't want to see some fat guy on the CTrain slobering over some naked midgit he just downloaded on his cell.
