Very disappointed in what I saw tonight. Coming off the loss to Van, I thought we'd see a motivated team. And we did...for about 5 minutes. After that it was downhill pretty much all the way. They got confused and ran around in their own zone, had zero cohesion and had difficulty with passing. Too many icings, too many lost pucks, just too much...of everything incompetent.

Vali/Nesterov need less ice time and need to be out in less confrontational situations. I have no idea what Ward is thinking.

The team looks dazed and confused. I'm williing to wait. But not long. If I'm the GM and I don't see something I like by the end of the road trip, I'm pulling the pin on something. And it's probably the coach. And maybe some assistants (hard to know with them).

But the PP looked great at the outset, and now looks like crap. The D looked great at the outset and now looks like crap.

Time to be honest.

Our team is never prepared for games. Today, We were not ready for Montreal's neutral zone play, we were not prepared at all to counter their powerplay, and we looked confused on half the shifts we played.

I can't understand why Treliving decided he needed to keep Ward.

Here's the thing. Rittich got hung out to dry on a couple goals with no run support in his first game in about a calendar year.

So ya, I dont think we have to go there.

But ok!

Well obviously they'll still be playing hockey for awhile, but this is the season they need to prove the flashes of brilliance they've shown aren't just flashes in the pan.

If they are eve going to prove they are elite players the time is now.

Flames actually had a good start and played with a fair bit of energy. Game was a decent pace and was even at 5v5.

Then the refs decided to get involved. There was a 50/50 call they didn’t call against Gaudreau, made a call that never should have been called against Valimaki, and then made the 50/50 call on Lindholm.

All three of those decisions go against the Flames and it’s a 2-0 game. From that point on you could just tell the Flames confidence was shot. They played 5/6 periods strong against the Leafs and lost both, then played a good period here and were down 2-0.

On top of that Claude Julien showed you the benefit of a true top end NHL coach. Montreal played their system to perfection in the 2nd and 3rd. Clogged up the middle of the ice, kept everything to the outside in the defensive zone, and gave the Flames nothing on the counter.

Good coaching can make it look like the opposition team has stopped trying because they won’t give the team a CM, and that’s what happened tonight .

League minimum forwards are not the reason we can’t afford Toffoli.

That would be San Bennett, Milan Lucic, and Derek Ryan. Or Markstrom and Tanev if you prefer the direct compatibles from this offseason.
Not the only reason for the loss but I agree on the reffing. I feel like a broken record but I'd like to see the flames career wins with Eric Furlat as the ref. I wouldn't be surprised if we are we way under 500 when he officiates. And how the hell do we get stuck with that guy for the last three games in a row?

This is the flames. They didn't play as terrible as other games. Habs are just far better. Leafs are just better. Flames are better than the Sens, but after that their in craptastic pile with Edmonton and Vancouver. Jets are better than these three.

I thought this was the Flames worst game...they had a tie with the Jets, pounded Vancouver, and were unlucky not to split with the Leafs.

Sample size is too small

They will both be high end point producers but maybe not carry a team on their backs. Career on the line? No they are awesome 2nd line/pp specialists.

Flash in the pan! Monahan is the leading goal scorer of his draft year

Maybe. There's some troubling patterns over these 7 games though...

Not really. PP was great. Vancouver was all over them, but Markstrom was lights out.

I think, I don't like player's coach anymore. This team performed better when they had demanding, hard working and tactical coach. Current players have lots of experience so they don't need teacher or friendly coach. They need winner friendly coach.
For me, it looks like, all lines messed up and they don't have clear roles and responsibility. Like Monahan line is scoring line but told to play a good defense. The Backlund line usually play best if they are told shut down other top line, and Lindholm line is mix and match.

for one of six periods maybe...Calgary certainly controlled the bulk of the play and outscored them 8-2.

Vancouver was not all over them

Seeing some of your recent posts I believe you have had enough of hallucinogens.

I missed parts of game but CGY was good to start this game (I saw the 1-0 and 3-0 goals) but just missed on their early chances. Even last game it looked like they just missed some good looks.

I feel like those are going to go in and then it just takes off for them. I just see a great team in CGY and they just need (not even a goal but some kind of spark) to make something, one thing, happen and they're going feed off it.

A little persistence and committment.
