Well true, but then again he is at the age where you see benefits from internal growth
Tre did not really bring in Leivo, Simon and Nordstrom to be difference makers

They (leivo, Simon) were handed the top6 RWs to start the season.

That is true and with that a very scary realization.

Yeah, that was nuts. Leivo is 27, in his age prime, and had 169 games across 8 seasons. Only the last 2 years did he stick, and that was with the rebuilding Canucks
I pointed this out before the season and it made some people unhappy
Tre signed them to the right dollar amounts but if he thought he was slotting in a bubble player top 6 that is more ‘smartest guy in the room’ stuff

the problem with the Flames forwards starts and end with Gaudreau and Monahan. As it stands, 5 on 5 the team has no top line. Hard to win that way.
Time to upgrade on Monahan. Great shot, but nothing else there. Johhny at least makes his linemates better. Monahan is the weak link.

People have been saying that for three offseasons now.
So treliving signed a big name goalie and signed 3 bottom 6 forwards and moved Lindholm to C.... That's the solution he felt sets the team up for the most immediate and future success. Really amazing.

Its a tough gig, I feel for him. He is afraid to lose the Monahan/Johhny trade. Sort of like the oilers, more interested in winning a trade than helping the team.

It's his own doing. Look no further than trying to accelerate out of the rebuilding phase way too early. I definitely don't want him to be the gm to make these moves. He seems like an elite assistant gm, not the main guy.

It’s not so much that he is a difference maker all on his own, but he makes the lines work a lot better.

This team knows how to put just enough effort in to make it look like they almost pulled out a W, enough to keep that little bit of hope in the fanbase simmering at the surface. A missed chance here, a bad bounce there and it would have been closer! It’s the same players, the same core, the same effort. The bulk of the minutes are Johnny, Monahan, Backlund, Tkachuk and Gio. We know what this team is, there is no mystery, they’re not all of a sudden going to flip a switch and be like “oh right this is how to win!”. They’re a mid tier team with a flawed construction, no top end talent down the middle, and our best players are very slow.

Way too early for panic but I understand the concerns. The core has needed a major shakeup for a couple seasons now and we are still seeing some signs of the same old Flames. Although I genuinely think they've looked pretty good at times and didn't play to badly against the Leafs. I think this is absolutely the last kick at the can with this core group in tact. And I'm not saying Ward is terrible but the unwillingness to hire an elite coach still frustrates me.

It's reassuring to know they're only one forward injury away from total collapse at all times... Hallmark of a well-constructed team. Yet somehow Tampa Bay manages to win a cup without Stamkos. Too bad the Flames can't win a game without Dube.

Who was the Canadiens coach when Calgary lost in the SC final ...85/86?
Was he ever a HC again?

Everyone is to blame for this loss but seriously really curious how Ward only played money and Jonny on the pp at the end? Even at 4 on 4 he sat them!’ Unless he knows something we don’t that bothers me!
Only reason I could see that happening is because it was a late night the night b4.
I hope I’m wrong cause I have never been the guy to speculate about the after hour stuff but man... to come within 2 and sit 2 of the best players on this team?

A sophomore at that. A guy that has 8 goals to his career.

The legendary Bob Johnson coached the Flames don't remember the Canadiens coach.
