Montreal is a good team but we have some horses in our corner as well. Too many passengers and not enough difference makers against Toronto — sometimes a wake up call like the first period on Tuesday is what you need. Adversity isn’t a bad thing.

I actually really like Simon on Johnny and Mony's wing, he has good speed and seems to be a pretty tenacious puck retriever.

Yeah, if they win you would be obligated.

I’m excited to have Rittich back between the the pipes, I think the team feeds off his emotion. Living in Vancouver all my friends warn me of Markstroms inevitable injury so we need Rittich engaged and in a groove so the team can overcome roster challenges like that.
Go Flames!

The downside for Simon is that when he's had the chance to bury an opportunity he's flubbed it. I think it was the 960 morning crew (maybe afternoon) who suggested Simon isn't helping Gaudreau & Monahan so much as he's just...there. No points as of yet for Simon.

First off, glad Mangiapaine slots back in with Backlund. That's been the first time I'm wondering what the hell Ward was thinking. You saddle Backlund with Sam Bennett and Milan Lucic and still try to play the Backlund line against the top line in a shutdown role? Like what a nightmare. Its obvious the Lindholm line has to match against the top lines of other teams if this is how you're slotting Backlund. Bennett needs to be sheltered.
Love that Rittich is getting the start. He is going to play a big role for the Flames to make the playoffs this year. I know many dont have faith in him anymore, but I believe the backup position is perfect for him and he will be looked upon as a valuable player. Markstrom cannot play every game in this hectic shortened season.

My friend is a penguins fan and that's exactly what he said about Simon when he was with the Pens, Crosby set him up for like 60 grade A chances and he would screw up every time. He's in the right spots and decent possession wise but has no finishing ability.

It wouldn't be so bad if Ward was a coach, and not just an overpaid turnstile running through 4 lines. It's like he caught flak at a parent's meeting, and now is making sure that little Milan gets just as much ice time as everyone else.
That line should be sub 8 minutes a game. Just because Tre's poor signings mean that you are paying almost $9 million for a 4th line doesn't mean the coach should be deploying them accordingly.

Maybe they’re just trying to convince Montreal to play Allen instead of Price. Mind games.
Edit : Nope Price is confirmed starter.

5 game, 8 day road trip
Rittich is going to start 2 and Markstrom 3 (unless injuries dictate otherwise)
So why have Rittich go in game 1? If they lose game 1, it puts pressure on the remaining games of the trip, and they are playing catch up.
Markstrom playing games 1, 3 and 5 makes way more sense.

That makes sense, though, if Markstrom loses game 1 I'm not overly comfortable with Rittich's first game of the year having that much more pressure to win in it.

Loubardias just said that he thinks the decision to play Rittich tonight is intentionally to put pressure on the rest of the team to perform better. Based on players's and coaches's comments, he says that the message heading in tonight is to stop relying on Markstrom to win the games, and to take control.

We should also discuss what merits continuing to create them... a 0.500 record?

of the 51 games on the schedule, I'd expect Rittich to play 16 to 19 of them. They need to get him going

I admit to starting the GDT on Tuesday because it was 8:30 and figured if someone really wanted to start it they would have already done so. The results speak for themselves

This makes me think that Dube is in and either Leivo or Nordstrom sits
