Investopedia is great for specific questions, I use Questrade as my broker but there are lots out there, Interactive Brokers seems to have a lot of good feedback, but their fee structure isn't great.
Nothing beats experience and studying the market, I come up with ideas, paper trade it for a month and throw out most and only execute successful one. I'm not a day trader like some here so can't comment on day trading strategies.

Loaded up with LH2 and LOX, forget the trans lunar injection, take this baby to the Kuiper Belt!
This one share is so much more exciting than all the lame index ETFs I otherwise deal with.

AMCI is very sensitive to the market. I've traded it probably 8-9 times so far. SPY dips, AmCi dips. Any SPY dip I've always added AMCI, and it's always paid off. I added that hard sell off today, and am sitting even. I have full faith it goes back up, but I will be selling a majority of my position leading into the merger vote.

My personal experience with Questrade has been good, I was with QTrade ####tiest broker I ever had the mistake of dealing with, holy #### the paperwork to get simple changes done... Like enable basic call/put option purchasing capabilities (not advanced) would not recommend that crappy company to someone I hate.

I use Questrade and am an active day and swing trader, and I don't mind them. The UI is intuitive enough.
I don't like a cpl things though.
- the commission fees (yes, I hear IB is better, but I am a creature of habit)
- charting licks butt. (I use Trading View instead)
- fills aren't as quick
In a perfect world, is combine ToS and Trading View, with no fees like they have in the States. But c'est la vie.
I won't use wealthsimple because they charge you Exchange every time you make a trade, so you end up paying more than commissions. ToS would be great, if you didn't have to pay 7.99 a trade.
One day might try IB. Or move to the States and apply for residency so I can get ToS in the States and trade for free. Haha

I know next to nothing about stock trading. Can someone tell me why it would be a bad idea to short GameStop and just wait for it to drop back down to, say, the $20 range? Eventually it has to, right?

If you are shorting, you will need a margin account, margin accounts have a set interest rate; however, each stock action has a multiplier on that rate. The interest rate to short GME is high due to the risk of a short squeeze. And your risk losing it all, like everything, not just your account if the bet goes really wrong which it has for short sellers in that stock.
If you are buying put options, the cost of them is high, this would probably limit your risk, the multiplier on options, just isn't worth it to me. The cost of purchase is too high, so you would have to risk a lot to get a position. Your risk of losing is just to lose the amount you gambled.

Same thing with Tesla right? It HAS to go down eventually... it hasn’t. It’s impossible to say really.

Yeah, if looking for price drop, consider a put option for sure, but agreed on high costs. Not a bad play to hedge your bets though, but keep in mind this is basically the reason why the stock has been rising. If it ever gets to the target of 1K (LOL, but believe), might be a good play

I’m in the same spot. Had a lucky and good 2020 with being cash heavy when I was looking to buy a place so I was able to average down really well and invest in other stuff that got me into the black really quick, but was kind of looking to rejig the portfolio anyhow.
I know, don’t try to time the market and all that. But will probably liquidate half of everything for a bit, as I want to start looking for a place again anyhow so I’d like to be cash heavy again. Might be my way to hedge if there is a big market correction after this.
