I'm sure casting the 'Schmoes' was an exhaustive and thoroughly investigated thing

A guy is thrust into a fake reality TV show thinking he'll become a bounty hunter and win $100,000... sounds really far fetched. If they pulled the wool over his eyes for the entire season then I don't know how he could be trusted to be a good bounty hunter.

Joe Schmoe was outright hilarious at times. They put the poor unsuspecting contestant through absolute hell.

I think in the second season they had a falcon delivering clues or something like that, and they staged the falcon crashing through a window and dying.

At the end of the first season, the cast were actually mortified at some of the things that they were doing to the unsuspecting guy because he was actually a really nice fellow and they knew he was going to be crushed by the reveal that the whole thing and all of his friends were fake.

The only kind of reality show that I am interested in are those ones with Simon Cowell or Gordon Ramsay whaling verbal insults to contestants....

When someone buys an entire hotel, they usually do so at a premium, not at a huge discount.
Not sure where occupancy rates would be average out to. But there would also be a big drop in overhead, less house keeping, less front desk staff.... It wouldn't shock me to hear they were at 50 cents on the dollar.

You see it with VRBOs sometimes 3 days =$1000, 7 days = $1750, 4 weeks =$4500 or something like that. Still we are probably talking about $3M US for the booking, not sure how that compares to survivor basically owning a small island.

Been thinking some about it...and based on name recognition, Survivor would probably be the only "Top Tier" reality show in my list.

Surprised this wasn’t posted when discussing Joe Schmo.

Can’t mention Joe Schmo without a shoutout to the always hilarious Ralph Garman (played the host).

Ramsay is a bully and shouldn't receive any TV time or accolades.

Cowell... I guess I'd have to think about that, but he probably fits the bill too.

If the criteria is being a bully in the kitchen, then there might be very few chefs on tv or winning awards.
hopefully it's different now, but when I was in the industry, it was standard behaviour.

Its a high pressure environment.

So you're saying Mike Babcock should be on Hell's Kitchen instead of NBC sports?

Ramsay is hot tempered, but usually just a "heat of the moment" thing with no malicious intent.

Cowell on the other hand is very condescending and just basically making fun of people for his own entertainment...

Ramsay is also a schtick for a tv show where people tune in to see it....

More so for American tv. You watch the UK shows he does and it's a lot tamer.

I meant for Hell's Kitchen.

Other shows in the USA he is much tamer too.

No one wants to watch Hell's kitchen and have him be nice. We want to see him throw the food around and yell "ITS RAAWWW!!"

Then I guess his industry needs an overhaul. Why is that behavior acceptable? It shouldn't be. It certainly isn't for the vast majority of people to behave like that in their professions. Just because it's for TV shouldn't make it right or entertaining.
