Jasper Park Lodge -entire hotel reserved
Thought it was interesting enough to start a thread. Some serious money involved.
Mystery guest takes over Jasper Park Lodge — the entire hotel — for 9-week booking
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...tion-1.5888481
All 446 rooms at Alberta's iconic Jasper Park Lodge have been reserved for a nine-week private booking, but hotel management is keeping mum about the mysterious guest.
Guests who had previously made bookings for that time frame have had their reservations cancelled, stirring speculation online.

I am now amazed at how much money the Bachelorette must rake in. I always thought that it was a second tier reality show.

renting 460 rooms for 9 weeks.
even at a reduced rate that's probably around 6 million just for rooms.
add in food, booze, etc and the hotel is going to do really well.

That's a great lift for a hotel business suffering like it's never suffered before.
Never watched it, never going to... but good for them!
(don't forget $.70/ US dollar - so they're making out ahead too)

Keep in mind they are not occupying 460 rooms. Cast and crew would be what 50- 75 rooms? They would not be paying $200 a night for 350 the vacant rooms.

In all likelihood, they probably have to book the vast majority, if not all the rooms to ensure they have the hotel to themselves

Well they'd have all the rooms booked (clearly) and would negptiate an all in price.
If the rack were $10m, I'm sure they'd agree on something like 2-3m given how empty everything is.
Even if you're getting 10% of full rates, being able to be fully booked and guaranteed revenues is a huge win in this market.

Did they book all 460 rooms through Expedia or did their lawyers negotiate a lump sum amount it would take to give them the entire hotel for 9 weeks?

Not a very big win though. Realistically how many locals would this actually benefit? Probably a few dozen hotel staff including the housekeeping and dining services but that is probably it. I'm assuming that any crew and production team members will travel with the show from the US and won't be hired locally.

Hopefully this is indeed a post-Covid boom for Alberta tourism.

Doubt very much they would agree to it for 10 cents on the dollar. Sure, their costs will be down, but not that much. Also, they have to cancel all those reservations, and those people will be pissed. There is a cost to that as well.
When someone buys an entire hotel, they usually do so at a premium, not at a huge discount.

That's like saying the entire film/TV industry doesn't benefit many people.
Even reality TV is big business on the support side. Sure JPL will benefit, but the production needs all kinds of support like transport, temp buildings/shelters, set trailers, location support & prep/design (yes even for reality), craft services, food/alcohol for an army, dry-cleaning, and all the things they do for the "dates". You're effectively housing ~200+ people for a couple months and everything they'll need in that time.
Never mind the impacts from the exposure to the region as a whole, its a huge boost to the economy.

It's free marketing for Jasper tourism, plus they're actually able to rent out the hotel during this pandemic. Everything about it is a win for Jasper IMO (other than people's subjective opinions on the show itself lol)
