Leafs management would love to have Chucky on their team. Don't kid yourself.

No embrassment when a player shows some emotion after losing a game. Shows that he cares.

Peters and Harltey and Sutter long before him for the most out of players in the third when it mattered.

Backlund is back to terrible form to start last year. Lucic is out of 2021 playing speed. Bennett is no surprise. Ryan is getting tossed around line after line. Simon is the third wheel on the JG and SM show, and Nordstrom is a non factor along with Leivo.

Moreso, we need the second line to show up. Lindholm, Tkachuk and Eat Bread were nonexistent, Tkachuk and Lindholm only on the PP. Last season and last playoffs shows that team will adapt to JG and SM and then it's up to get substantial help from the second line.

Probably good to get on the road for a bit. Almost two calender weeks at home, and that break really took enough of the edge off to look sloppy for an opportunistic Leafs team to take advantage these last two games.

Maybe if it was a new coach, but this is Ward. This will always be Ward. This is the Flames peaking under Ward.
There is no way in hell we are having a coaching change this early into the season, especially after signing Ward to a deal.

Like it or not this is our coach for the duration of the season. Let's give him some time to work out the kinks - he's done fairly well as a coach with them.

I have my doubts that Gallant or any other top tier coach in the NHL has Calgary on the radar.

Gotta believe in the process. Even after it's failed for 5 years.

lol so if you cherry pick out 7 games he won as coach he has an average record...I mean take 7 wins away from anyone this season that will make a big difference in the standings

Yet the game was tied in the third period. It was a brand new ballgame and the Flames had the momentum on their side. It was their game to lose, and the Flames coach made an atrocious line matchup on back to back shifts, resulting in the winning goal against. What moron puts your weakest defensive pair with your weakest skating line out against the oppositions best and most mobile line? Geoff Ward. Twice in the third period after the Flames had fought back to tie the game. The was AWFUL. If you'd done that timbit, you'd hang your head in shame and admit your mistake. Just horrible management of the bench.

It was a flick.
After the game was over and done strictly to be unsportsmanlike. He probably said something stupid too.

And it got the reaction it deserved. What point are you trying to make?

Other than their slow starts I like what i'm seeing from the Flames. Play 60 minutes and they'd have won both of those games against the Leafs. No reason to jump ship.

As same as last year this team can't play its potential. No confidence, always follow other team's tempo, can't control flow of the game.

Tkachuk should have just let it go. That would have been a better reaction.

Most teams experience a surge when a new coach is brought on.

What's more telling of a coaches impact on a team: the first 7 games where has barely changed anything regarding the system, or the most recent results of the team?

The Flames analytics showed the same. The numbers cratered under Ward. They only got worse as the season went on.

I bet Muzzin gets fined....there is no way he can claim it wasnt intentional even if it was just a wrist flick.

I have no problem with it either. Its just Tkachuk doing the whole "live by the sword, die by the sword" routine.

That it would not have broken Tkachuk's nose. It was not dangerous.

It was a dick move, yes. But Tkachuk's reaction was exactly what Muzzin wanted.

I don't mind Tkachuk dishing it out but man he has to learn to be able to take it better.

A few of Ward's decisions have me shaking my head and sometimes cursing under my breath so I'm hoping he learns fast from the mistakes.

I'm happy that Johnny had the puck on a string again tonight and hope it sticks. Maybe him and Monahan have a redemption year in them this season.

Game Takes: Leafs 4 Flames 3

- terrible start
- good rebound
- still like the Monahan/Gaudreau rebound
- probably deserved better

What is the winning percentage of teams that are down after 2 periods, historically, 8 %?

100%.
If he rises to the occasion, more teams are going to key on it. A big part of Chucky's game is his ability to get into the heads of his opponents, but if he starts letting guys do it to him, it's going to neutralize that advantage pretty quickly.

Flames were the better team after the first. Gaudreau was probably the best player on the ice for either team.

Tkachuk needs to not get so upset when someone plays pest with him.
