Launch the fourth line wingers into the sun and replace them with the WJC pair. I guarantee it would be worlds better.

That only applies to multiyear contracts signed after the player is 35 (and under the changes to the CBA signed in the summer, doesn't even apply to a lot of 35+ contracts anymore).
Although it feels like he has been around forever, Lucic isn't even 35 yet, and wasn't even 30 when he signed the contract.

Really hope we crush Toronto tonight.
Heard Marek smugly ask Friedman on this week's 31 Thoughts "wouldn't Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver all wish they were in the Pacific division?" He's also arrogantly said Toronto will easily win the div because they're a tier above of everyone else.
The Flames are going to be in the mix for the division lead, #### you Marek.

If they play the leafs as a skill team they'lll lose, as they don't have the high end skill the leafs do. Flames only did that in the last seconds the last game, which isn't enough.
It's so annoying to watch guys like Lucic and Bennett not know their roles yet. If they aren't contributing to scoring chances, which they truly weren't, get in on the forecheck and finish all your checks.
Really want to see a win over the leaves.
Go Flames Go!

Pelletier - Ryan - Phillips would probably have been a really fun 4th line.
I think Zary can still use another season to be honest.

Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.
#%^* the Leafs and their Canadian-wide love fest. They cried after Matty took a nap on their goalie, just wait until we bury them tonight.

Speaking of bizarre narratives, Matthew Tkachuk disagrees with yours.
Tkachuk has 16 hits, Bennett has 6.

His cap hit would be gone. I believe that only applies to contracts signed after a player turns 35.

Lucic just up and retiring would make him worthy of a Statue and a front office position IMO.

I think you are wrong (not slamming you or anything) just not for the reasons you seem to think.
Lucic can be bought out, but his cap hit wont appreciably decline because he structured his contract to be heavy on signing bonuses.
And hes not going to retire. Thats the thing some people dont seem to understand, if a player 'retires' formally then their contract is null and void because one party is no longer operating within the clauses.
He might go on LTIR where he gets paid (partially) by an insurance company rather than entirely by the team, but players.... people with short careers dont tend to leave money on the table.

Bennett Stat line through 4 games: 0G 0A 0P -4 3SOG 6HITS
Honestly, he's been worse than Lucic statisically speaking. Bennett and Nordstrom have been the worst players on the roster.

Something seems up with Looch. He's slowed down, sure, but his shot is almost non-existent. It's like his shoulders and wrists won't flex properly. He just sort of holds out his stick and twists at the waist. It seems he's well enough to play, but I wonder if maybe his condition advanced/worsened. I hope not. I like him when he brings some jam.
Here's hoping for a Flames win, and maybe Looch proves us all wrong tonight.

hits =/= finishing checks
also, Tkachuk gets more ice time
But yes, Tkachuk is also a check finisher. So my mistake, I should have said: Tkachuk and Bennett finish their checks more than any other forwards.
Feel better?

Bennett has been terrible when on the 4th line
Bennett has been fine on Backlund's line, adding lots of energy. And their stats back that up (Bingo has posted them already)

Well he has some excuses I guess. He is old and not aging gracefully in hockey terms. He had a shortened season last year, short tourney last summer and is now playing again with no preseason and a shortened camp.
Almost expected that he and other vets would be rusty. And his rusty becomes very evident as he is very slow on a good day.
Let's hope he gets back to form, but even then, he will continue to be the slowest guy on the team. Playoff Lucic would be great so there is hope.

Milan Lucic lead the Flames with 198 hits last season. Bennett had 101.
Feel better?

I would feel more confident with our fans in the Dome (n/w/s they are not the most vocal bunch).
Interesting this whole empty arena thing - opportunity for some sports social scientist to study the impact (or not) of no-fans at home games.

I wonder if they can pipe in a "LOOOOOOOOCH" cheer following a big hit. Might fire up the big guy a little bit.
