I can’t help but think both players are not very pleased.
They both leave when UFAs IMO.

From the Flames' perspective, the trade makes WPG harder to play against, in the sense that their centre depth is now better. But easier to play against in the sense that they will be less dangerous offensively.
Also, Laine was always a bit of a Flame killer, and it was his presence that made their PP dangerous, IMO.
I won't miss having Laine out there against us. And I think that for this year, WPG is weaker (though long term, I think it is a good trade for them).

I just watched a mid-period with Laine on the CBJ broadcast, and he seems genuinely pretty happy about it.

I'm glad to see Laine gone from the Jets. No idea who the winner of this will be long-term.

Well that’s alright to hear, Columbus deserves some breaks.
Dubois walking would be hilarious though.

They interviewed Laine in the first intermission of the Columbus/Tampa Bay game. He said all the right things (looking forward to playing with the Jackets, will contribute any way he can, hears that Columbus is a great city etc). Not sure how sincere he is being but at least he was sitting up and wearing a shirt this time.

And it bears repeating: Dubois has but one assist v. the Flames in his last four games over two years. I think both teams made a really good deal, but I like it best for the Flames.

Having watched plenty of players fake their way through interviews, saying all the right things, this didn't look like that to me. Laine seemed pretty happy, and was even joking around with the interviewers.

That’s the best part. Two malcontents learning that you better be careful for what you wish for. What was Laine’s issue anyway?
I would have loved to get Dubois, but not at the expense of breaking up our top 4 forwards, so it was never going to happen. Monahan at least seems happy in Calgary.

It would have been nice to be in on this but Tkachuk is the only player that could match WPG's offer...

Yeah. Thats a 'Hard No.'
I'd much, much rather keep Chucky.

4th period mentions the flames had interest in Dubois dating back to the offseason. Discusses the trade could have been a biggie
Wonder if it could have been Monahan+Gaudreau for Anderson+Dubois?

What’s interesting to me is that this was the PLD sweepstakes, not the Laine sweepstakes.
That’s either bad GMing by Chevy or a sign that Laine isn’t worth nearly as much as I would have expected.

What a lopsided trade. Jets got fleeced
Also, another win for the entitled generation. Pout and whine til you get what you want. Honestly, they should have let him die on his sword, and be scratched and buried til he served his contract. Who cares if his development was impeded. You're paid to do a job. Go effing do it.
Laine didn't b and moan. He went and played his butt off before being injured. Exactly how he should have.
What a dumb trade altogether though. 3 players traded, that likely none will stay after their contracts expire. Terrible asset management by both sides. The only thing that was done right in this whole situation was prior to the trade. Laine playing his best, and Torts benching a whiny petulant child.
