There's currently a power struggle going on inside the Republicans between McConnell and the more traditional establishment guys and Trumpists.
It's better that McConnell wins that fight decisively.
(And then the losers can form their own far-right extremist party that hopefully will split the GOP base and sideline the outright fascists from power.)

As for Biden, I think there's Americans are pretty terrible at estimating what kind of leaders their presidents are going to be like. They were mostly quite wrong about Obama being a progressive, they mostly didn't believe Trump is a dangerous crazyperson, and I think they're wrong when they see Biden as a moderate center-right "back to the way things were" president.
I think Biden is going to surprise people with how much he's willing to do and how progressive he can go. Especially since Biden is not a narcissist who thinks his opinion is what should decide everything, but more of an old school politician who sees politics as a collaborative effort to move good ideas forward.
While the Bernie fans tend to see Biden as internal opposition, I think it's clear Biden doesn't look at them the same way, to him they're people on the same side with different ideas, some good and some bad.
The Democratic party has taken a pretty significant step to the left during the Trump years, and that's going to be reflected in what the White House is going to do more than Biden's personal opinions, because again Biden is not a narcissist who thinks he's the center of the world.
