Maybe not.
Laine is younger and has the higher upside than Monahan at this point in their careers.
Kylington was just on waivers for free and nobody took him and would need to be protected in the expansion draft so so he has no real value here.
Roslovic was a late first that still has potential, while also being a hometown kid which would have value to a team like Columbus struggling to attract talent as well. His value right now is probably still a late first / second rounder.
Laine hasn’t fully lived up to his hype but when they guy is on his game he’s one of the best pure goal scorers in the league. Get him in the right situation and motivated to play and he’s scoring 50 if not more.

Yeah look what Laine just did to us. Don’t have to see him for another 8 games.

I wouldn't be upset at all if the Flames didn't get him. He could very well pull the same thing. What I heard today ironically from a Jets fan is that he wants to to go to Montreal.

Like another poster said. There's very little chance Winnipeg is offering both Laine + Roslovic for just PLD. Most likely asking for a secondary piece out of Columbus.
This would leave a huge hole in the CBJ centre depth which is fairly weak to begin with. I still believe Columbus is looking for a deal that brings a ready top 6 centre back.

I actually wonder if Columbus would be asking for Lindholm over Monahan which would likely be the end of the discussion for Treliving.

You know...a three way deal that sees Dubois land in Montreal, Laine & Roslovic land in Columbus, and a package of NHLer/Picks/Prospects land in Winnipeg could make a lot of sense for all three teams.

If Laine is on the table then it’s likely Columbus is asking for Tkachuk for a Calgary to beat the offer.

Lol, if it was for Lindholm straight up, Columbus better be adding something significant. Lindholm becomes Ufa the same time Dubois does, and is cap controlled for another 4 years. Plus, he's a better all round player right now than Dubois is. Where is the incentive for Flames to even entertain that trade?

Is PLD actually that good?
I never watch Columbus games but this seems like he's getting over hyped based on draft position.

My first thought is to refrain on a guy like PLD. But the last two young centers like him in Johansen and Seguin who got traded made the cup with their new teams. The team who got the far better deal for the guy they traded is the only one of those 4 teams who hasn't. So maybe getting this type of guy is worth it.
At this point it's pretty obvious the Kekalainen isn't going to give him away for the Seguin return. So it's going to take something significant to get him to pull the trigger. I'm not sure the Flames have the right assets to do it. Will be interesting to see how it plays out here in the next 24 hours.

If wpg does get him tomorrow, 14 day quarantine takes it to Feb 6th. We play wpg 3 times before that date.

Dumb but serious question:
What if losing Monahan means losing Johnny?
Meaning: Johnny decides if Monahan is traded, he won’t re-sign here, and we don’t trade him pre-UFA so lose him for nothing. Is trading Monahan for Dubois still a good deal?
Please no: “if that causes Johnny to leave we don’t want him anyway” responses.
This is a legit question.

Laine and Roslovic for PLD. Do other pieces need to be involved from either side?

Dreger likely flipped a coin before that tweet as to which team he was going to say were front runner.
Put me in the very good but not required to shake up the roster in a major way for the Flames.
If Laine and his receding hairline are starting to pout, the fit does make sense to move both.

I think Johnny is a professional and understands it is part of the game. I am sure he would miss his friend but I don't think that would affect his decision to stay in Calgary or not.

Not that anyone cares but I made a dumb mistake. I was reading the 2019-2020 GSVA projections from the Athletic instead of the 2020-2021 GSVA projections. The Athletic projects Monahan to have a higher GSVA than Dubois, 2.14 to 2.00 this year. I guess it would help if I could read.
By the way, for anyone interested, Tkachuk is at 3.15 (20th for all NHL forwards), Gaudreau is at 2.82 (28th) and then Lindholm and Monahan are at 2.21 and 2.14 respectively.
Our 5th highest rated F? Andrew Mangiapane (1.75).

I have the feeling Johnny wont be sad for long getting Dubois as his center.
