Call me weird, but I just don't see Dubois being an upgrade on Monahan (at least not a big one). The only reason to do it would be age/contract status, but even then, I think Monahan is playing at a bargain right now. How long until Dubois commands the same dollars, puts up the same numbers (or worse) and the team stays stagnant?
I know this team probably needs a significant upgrade at a forward position to be a real cup contender, but I don't see this as being the solution. I suspect we aren't serious contenders for Dubois.

Players like PLD are worth spending big assets for. His counting stats and supposed "character" issues need to be overlooked here. This is so reminiscent of the ROR situation in Buffalo.
Hopefully Tre will be able to make a push and ideally get a trade done.

For me
Hanifin + Ryan + 1st for PLD + Savard is where I think id be willing to get to; hard to trade a guy like Monahan Or Gaudreau at this point because it’s arguably a lateral move and with the quarantine period and locker room distribution to consider you really only want to bring a guy like PLD in to add to the riches.

Looking at their numbers and possession stats, I’d rather just keep Monahan. The guy is 26, it’s not like he’s going to stop getting better at the 200 foot game.
And if he’s your #2C, putting up 50-60 points and 25-30G, signed for another three years at a reasonable number, I take that all day from a homegrown player.

I love and hate that Tre is always in on every big name. Love it because he's grinding to improve the team, hate it because I always get hopes up before the inevitable no deal.

I don’t think you’re weird but IMO age is the big reason why you do it. Dubois is still only 22 and his upside makes it worth the risk.
There is more risk in standing pat as I see it and will another potential #1 center come available in the next year?

This thread is moving fast, but is PLD that much better than Monahan that we would pay Johnny + 1st or Monahan +1st?
I’d pay that for Barkov type player. Not PLD type player imo.
