I've loved a lot of this show, and haven't really found enough to care about to be critical of it. But that space float was pretty bad. If they wanted it to be somewhat realistic it should have been a lot shorter. She was out for over a minute.

In the books Naomi jumped over just as the bridge between the ships was retracting so it should have been a lot shorter. Yea you'd be dead in seconds but Naomi stabbed herself in the leg that hyper-oxygenated blood they went on about w/ Monica earlier in the season. Writers probably coulda made it shorter and cut out that leg shot bit but kept it for dramatic effect or just so Filip definitely thinks his mother is dead?

From that same scene, kinda tragic the way Cyn screwed himself.

I didn't get the Cyn thing? Is he dead? They showed him kinda frozen, just as Naomi left. Couldn't he or whoever was outside have shut the door? If she had all that time to survive, wouldn't he? I haven't read the books, so was unsure on that. But if he died and she lived, it makes even less sense.

So from what we know about space now, when you are in a vacuum you're unconscious and probably dead in ~20s. That time gets shorter if you have air in your lungs when you are exposed from vacuum due to pressure differences sucking the air out of you. So if you know the vacuum is coming and are prepared for it by exhaling, you'll last longer than if you aren't and just reflexively held your breath.

Naomi survived because she gave herself a kick of oxygen to her body while she was outside. You'll see Cyn's hand reaching out for Naomi as she floating away and he loses consciousness and gets stuck in place, but blocks the doors from shutting completely. The airlock doors attempt to close partially and stop. Guessing some kind of safety mechanism, like we have with current automatic doors. It's one of those blink and you'll miss it things.

So you got Cyn blocking the outer door of the airlock from closing with seconds to live and Filip is stuck on the other side not being able to open the inner airlock door without exposing the whole ship to vacuum and he can't close the outer doors quickly. Filip would either have to override the safeties or goto the next bulkhead over and close those doors + get his own vac suit on to rescue Cyn, both of which would take too long... so Cyn is definitely dead.

Yeah the books do her story justice because they can be inside her head. I still liked the episode but having read the books really helps.

I guess that's true of the whole series.

I really liked the whole plotline of Naomi on Marco's ship, but I'm curious to know if in the books it would have been more uninterrupted? Going between Naomi's storyline and the other simultaneous storylines, the others all were more dramatic. That kinda deflated the tension of the Naomi/Marco/Phillip drama.

It kinda plays out like it does in the show. Books are structured very much like Game of Thrones, which isn't surprising the authors used to work as assistant writers under George RR Martin. Each chapter has a point of view character and you see whats going on with that character.

Speaking of Naomi, geez she was in rough shape after her time on the float. I thought producers woulda just had her wake up and just gasp a bit, but she looks like she got beat up in the alley behind a dive bar.

I actually struggled with that last episode, I think I was maybe too tired and didn't really get what was going on (especially Naomi's part even though I've read the books). Think I need to re-watch.

I really enjoyed the ending of this weeks episode. I kinda liked that they showed just how desperate and analytical Naomi is. She just get getting beat and then she would try again. I found it tough to figure out what the message was saying until watching and listening during the closer credits as the message was on loop it got louder and louder and much more clear. I thought it was fantastic!

Idk about this season. It was my favourite book but it just doesn’t seem to be grabbing me the same as previous seasons. Feels like Amazon sucking the soul out of it IMO.

I found the asteroids hitting earth to be quite underwhelming. There was no feeling to it and not much in the way of scale.
Naomi’s scenes have been so dialogue heavy and they haven’t done anything to make me feel for the situation Philip is in.
Amos & Peaches seem to just be on a field trip, where is the devastation? Where is the churn?
Just when it feels like they’re starting to find their pacing, every episode ends with a cliffhanger. I’m already a fan, so just tell the damn story.

Yeah as a book reader I've been disappointed with the lack of destruction on Earth. I think it would have been a lot more suspenseful (or higher stakes?) if it had played out like the book where the planet is basically entirely wiped out and billions gone.

I keep waiting for some grand reveal on the true level of destruction haha, not sure we're going to get it this season.

I'm in this camp, I thought with the budget they had they could really do the scale of the attacks justice. Even without that we are still only hearing about casualties in the millions, makes it feel like Marco's attack was really just a blip considering the population of Earth.

man Naomi just redefined what it means to have a bad day. if I was in as much physical and emotional distress as her, I would have just been like, pashang this and set off the explosives to be done with it.

I have no bookreading plans so not that concerned about which format did what better, but the relatively small scale of Marco's attack and subsequent declaration of owning everything beyond Earth's atmosphere makes him sort of pretty dumb. it would be like if after 9/11, Bin Laden broadcast a message saying that the Middle East is now fully in control, and America will face destruction if it tries to do anything beyond its own borders.

they're debating how much of a response to enact, but if it really came down to it, the UN and whatever part of Mars that hasn't switched sides would be more than enough to wipe the Belt clean from the solar system several times over.
