Yeah, that kind of hosed you. Kind of pulled the air out of the room to be honest.

I expect the Hawks could do better, especially if they retained.
Strome would have little value to them, DeAngelo wouldn't really fit their window (and has huge issues), and the first would be a late first.
They would likely want futures, and it would need to include a premium future.

The list of teams Kane will waive for is going to be incredibly small in my opinion. I agree though they can likely do better.
A deal that I thought of that might work out would be sending him to the hometown Sabres for Cozens and Skinner. Hawks take on the long term contract of Skinner to get the elite prospect in Cozens to build around in addition to Dach. Fairly formidable 1-2 punch down the middle. Sabres could send a conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st if they make the playoffs.
Hall-Eichel-Kane
I think that makes Jack happy

I doubt the Hawks would take on such a long term anchor in Skinner. They would be better off taking on half of Kane's cap hit and getting Cozens and lots more.
The value of Cozens and Skinner combined is about nothing.

I wouldn’t trade Cozens for a 32 year old even at 5.75M.

32 year old who is still an elite producer.
If I'm Stan Bowman and the talks are with the Rangers, I'm looking at Kappo Kappo as a starting point.

Depends if Buffalo is desperate to make the playoffs and try to entice Hall to sign long term afterwards. For Eichel, playing with Kane is a heck of a lot more enticing than waiting for Cozens to develop in a few years.

That is fair but if Cozens is being dangled in a trade I would target Dubois over Kane since he helps immediately and long term.

Crazy overrating of Dubois here IMO. If you already have a young all star centre, PLD isnt as attractive. The goal here would be to increase Eichel's offensive output to keep him happy, Kane is much more likely to achieve that. In fact I would say it's almost a guarantee that a Hall-Eichel-Kane line would be the most offensively gifted line in the league.

Kane is still an elite winger who is clutch in the playoffs. If Buffalo's goal is to try to make the playoffs as quick as possible, they'd go after Kane over Dubois IMO. Right now, you have no idea if Dubois's playoff success was just a one year thing. With Kane, you get a proven commodity.

Kane keeps Eichel happy in the short term but what if Kane walks in 2 years or has a reasonable drop off in production as he nears 35 years old?
I get why the Sabres would go after Kane but with how great Cozens was at the world juniors I would hesitate to give him up for what could be a short term scenario and would either keep him or move him for another long term piece. Buffalo still lacks a decent second line center long term so Cozens makes sense to keep. If they could dump Skinner though then it is a different situation.
I could be wrong but I do not know of many examples of when a team has traded a top 10 pick who is looking like a top prospect for a guy who is 32 or older?

To me, Kane is the guy you pick up to push you over the top when you're already close. As far as I know, Buffalo is not in that situation, so I don't see them spending heavily on a player like Kane right now. Whereas PLD can continue to grow with their team

Kane takes up $10.5 million in salary cap room for this year and two more. Chicago is also going to want a nice package to give him up.
I wouldn't want my team trading for him. I'd just wait until the end of the season and spend that money on a free agent.
It only makes sense if your team is one where a free agent would never willingly sign, due to there being something in the water.

Normally, I'd agree. All I'm saying is, it just depends on how desperate Buffalo is in making the playoffs and keeping Eichel be happy, as well as enticing Hall to sign long term. Longterm, I agree PLD would be a better bet vs. Kane, but it could be getting to the point where some of their elite guys are tired of spinning their wheels year after year and getting nowhere.
Let's be honest. Their last 10 years has been even worse than the Oilers, so that's really saying something.

You aren't likely getting a UFA like Kane very often, if ever. He's a true difference maker, a player that ups his play come playoff time. For some reason, I would expect if he could be convinced to waive, it would be to New York.
Chicago would need to eat some cap in some fashion to make it happen, becuase good teams never have that much cap space available.

He is from Buffalo- there might be some allure there. Wouldnt count them out entirely.

This PLD situation is going to become toxic soon.

Pierre-Luc Dubois has not played in 20 minutes of game time. The player remains on the #CBJ bench.
