That's the hottest of takes!
Certainly wouldn't want to see it tested out!

Yeah it would obviously be a huge disaster to be in that position haha.
I just hope Wolf avoids the AHL as much as possible, since it's where all Flames goalie prospects go to die.
Although I guess Rittich spent time there.

How in the world can you guarantee this? Wolf is 19...

Obviously the "guarantee" is superlative because it's for a hypothetical disaster scenario. Hot takes are like this. In a vacuum, Wolf is probably a better goalie than Domingue. Right now.
Well out of the top 10 goalies in the NHL, I believe most all of them were starters by 23, and most of them were in the NHL as backups by 20.
Gibson, Vasilevskiy, Price, Hart, Hellebuyck and Lehner were all starters by 23. They all played in the NHL as 20 year olds. Murray won 2 cups by 22. Even Markstrom, Varlamov, Rask and Holtby played in the NHL at around 20 years old.
This is part of the problem with the Flames goalie development. They don't give their young goalies chances. And I realize this kind of goes against common intuition.
There are pretty much no elite goalies who didn't get NHL experience in their early 20s. I'm not saying the Flames should play Wolf now. But I'm saying they should play him sooner rather than later.

Wolf is likely not a better goalie than Dominique right now. In fact, he may never be. Maybe in a vacuum he is, but he likely isn’t on the ice.
All the goalies you mentioned were high draft picks.
Crawford was a 2nd round pick who had a very few cups of coffee in the NHL before becoming a regular at 26 years of age.

This seems like it could be part of the problem with our goalie development. Quit putting these guys in vacuums and let them on the ice!!

Short season, flat cap, heavy restrictions on player movement... Yeah this trade rumors thread was always going to suck this season.

So say Markstrom gets injured in the playoffs like he did last year, you trust Louis Domingue to carry the team? I believe Treliving would like to keep his job

I would like PLD, but as a backup plan anyone watch Nolan Patrick this year? His stats are good, but I haven't watched any games.

If it’s not PLD, I would ride out the 3 centers we currently have.

well the rumor proposed a trade that was lopsided in the Flames favor, so if it was actually on the table, you gotta take it IMO.
TBH, I don't trust Dave to win a playoff series either. We brought in Markstrom for a reason.

I don’t think PLD is the answer, so I agree at rolling with the centers we have. Calgary can fit the Boston mold and reflect their most dominant line of Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak with Tkachuk - Lindholm and a top end RW. Laine fits the bill but he would cost too much. Maybe Mantha? Just signed a contract, don’t think he’s going anywhere. Patrick Kane? He’s got a high cap hit, but if the Hawks could retain on 10% of it while we give up Lucic, Hanifin, a 1st, and then another significant asset I could see the Hawks at least listening.
