Knowing how much former Canucks absolutely crush them, treveling may have been the smartest guy in the room with his summer signings for a Canadian only division
Stetcher may have won the Norris if he signed up in Canada, to go along with markstroms vezina and toffolis Richard, tanev likely wont get enough points to finish higher than top 10

Montreal almost scored there with less than 2 seconds left.

That was a sloppy, ugly OT period.

Another 5 goals against the Canucks? They really need a goalie and some decent defense.

This game has been entertaining, but I don't think either team has looked great. Montreal had a stronger third period, I guess.

I won't put much stock in Sunday's result,in an afternoon game after a week off, but beyond that I would expect the Flames to own the Leafs with the way they looked tonight.
Hope I'm right.

I don't really buy it. The Leafs have also had moments of looking absolutely dominant. We're a week into a season with many players having not really skated in months with no preseason playing their 5th game in 8 days. Gonna have some pretty pedestrian nights I think for all teams.
The Flames are absolutely lucky for the time off, as everyone will start getting into game shape at the same time, but the Flames will get a head start as they have 5 points in 3 games and will have played less games.
I think we're in for some awful hockey this season due to the lack of time off, but I don't care. It's still hockey

And it's well deserved, as he has been awful.
But the elephant in the room is Hughes. He has also been horrific in his own end. Tonight he was on the ice, and usually looking lost, for all 4 of Montreal's ES goals.

I am less confident in that we are lucky getting this early break. Maybe if it was after 6 games, but is only 3 enough to get the rust off, without immediately re-acquiring it?
Those missed days will also mean more condensed days coming.

This schedule is ridiculous
Vancouver will have 7 games in the books Saturday and Calgary will still be at 3
more games in hand than games played

Could potentially see a situation where Calgary has the least points in the North division despite having the best winning percentage.
edit - unlikely though as Sens would have to get 3 points from Jets allowing them 2. Nucks and Oils would have to get a win also

Just watched the highlights on NHL of the goals... yeah, it's not the goalie. First goal is Toffoli left alone for a breakaway. Second goal is Toffoli left alone in front for a tap in. Third goal is a cross-crease tap in on a 2 on 1. Fourth goal is a shot from the slot that deflected off a stick. Last goal is tipped in from right in front.
They're several steps removed from "decent defense". They should probably start with "beer league defense" and go from there. It seriously might be worse than the Oilers.

This is a good thing. They get a couple games under their belt, and then some practice time to make adjustments where necessary. It's like actually getting an exhibition schedule. They'll benefit from it.

Yeah, it's hard to blame Hamonic for Hughes losing his guy on two of those. Then again, it's hard to blame Hughes for Hamonic waddling over to have a not pleasant conversation with the guy who hit Hughes.

I think the biggest problem with the early break is that teams are much more likely to have more injuries later in the season.
That break would give people time to recover.
As it stands now, the Flames have almost no injuries except for Dube.

I guess we will see...they will have the most compressed schedule starting next week...got rest when it wasn't needed IMO

Yeah this Flames break is not ideal. Theyve looked more organized and focused and well prepared than their opponents so far...Winnipeg included. They just had such a cake walk and being far superior that first period they let up far too much and then a tacky 5 on 3 call turned the game upside down.
Other teams will get up to that speed eventually, and while the practice time is good right now, riding this momentum that they have over other teams who are trying to find thier way, they miss out of the opportunity to take points off those teams.
