You insult your coworkers over their stupid opinions about things that have nothing to do with work daily?
Why not just, you know, get to work?

Insult them? No, I try to discuss with them where they got their info and try to get them to think critically.
Occasionally I do talk down to them. Keeping your mouth shut all the time helps no one but yourself. That type of selfishness is why we are where we are right now.

You don’t have conversations with coworkers unrelated to work?
Sounds nice.

It's the average persons "Why don't you stick to sports" situation.

Three topics I try my hardest to avoid at work: politics, religion, and why someone doesn't have kids. No good comes from any of these conversation topics IMO.

This conversation I was pretty darn quiet. I let her just talk and vent. And then I would pick my spots on when I would at least try to counter some stuff.
We've had some much more heated conversations in the past and we are able to keep working together even though we are such opposites.
She's so deep down the rabbit hole there probably isn't much I can say to change her mind. But I will do my best to keep chipping away.

You're doing "gods" work my friend.
All we can do is try to push back. She's probably not going to become an extremist, but this is how it starts for sure.
It probably sounds hyperbolic, but I honestly think it is everyones job to keep battling extremism in our communities. We need to keep working to disable extremism before it can take deep root in our society.

I haven't done this with politics but I have on other topics.
Start with agreeing.
Then say how stupid your actual position is.
Then get them agreeing with every baby step from their position to yours.
You'll end with them agreeing with your actual position and thinking that those that believe the original position are lunatics.
Again, haven't done this with politics. Fortunately, I haven't been in the position to.

Brutally unfunny, as is typical of the Beaverton. They really need to hire some comedic writers.

Even the worst writers occasionally come up with something funny, so it never hurts to check it out.
It's like the simpsons. even though it now sucks, you still get the occasional chuckle.

Not much going on in DC in regards to protests/riots. Not surprising, as that place is locked down tight.
Sounds pretty quiet so far in other cities and states as well, which is good news.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/20/us/us...day/index.html
Quote:
States, too, have bolstered their defenses by setting up fences and barriers, boarding up windows, and calling in the National Guard.
So far, the large security efforts have dwarfed the protests that materialized. But the tensions remain high.
On Sunday, small gatherings of protesters, some of whom were armed, stood outside capitols in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and several others states, but many other state capitols that had prepared for the worst encountered just a handful of people. All of the protests were peaceful.

Quote:
Law enforcement officials say there is a broad surveillance net focused on people in the groups who participated in the Capitol attack. One of the prominent themes emerging is that the very anti-government conspiracies that drive groups like the Oath Keepers and other militants has become a driver to avoid the protests, fearing that they were being set up for arrest.
Some of the people most likely to attend these types of events are also trying to lower their profile after participating in the insurrection, law enforcement officials said.
Some have seen their faces in FBI posters circulated in the past week. In some cases, members of the groups have turned themselves in, hoping to gain some benefit from not waiting for the FBI come find them.

I mean good for her for finally realizing the obvious, but she doesn't get a hero cookie for that. Better not tell her about the tooth fairy yet, it would be all too overwhelming for her.

@Parlertakes on Twitter has been posting content of conspiracy theorists and extremists turning on Qanon and, basically, battling with stepping back into reality.

Quote:
Fee, who has a history of racist accusations against him, claimed to be “at the tip of the spear” during the riots in DC, authorities said Monday.
He texted an acquaintance a photo of himself surrounded by rioters inside the Capitol Rotunda, according to court papers.
Fee also allegedly sent the man, whose sister was formerly Fee’s girlfriend, a video in which people were yelling “tyranny” and “Pelosi,” along with a text about being the deadly riot’s spear tip.
The unidentified man, an agent with the US Diplomatic Security Service, initially deleted the communications but later recovered them and contacted authorities, according to court papers.
