Yeah I've seen a lot of smoke too, hopefully there's some fire not far behind.

Reading like an outright inferno now. Waiting for bow tie guy or someone big to confirm, but it seems to be done.

If he's at the rumored 5 year / $100 MM deal, it sounds about right for getting him at a covid discount. Really can't complain at all. I'd prefer that money spent on a non-outfielder, but the term and dollar value are solid compared to salaries for stars in a normal year. So in a weird way it seems like a deal. Although I'd prefer Realmuto, if they go the direction of Springer, with the need to upgrade pitching, perhaps you save the money for next year to sign an Ace, and rely on the existing catching prospects to pan out. I'm not opposed to that in any way. Dealing Grichek and a prospect 10th ranked prospect should bring back a #3 starter. Things are looking up.

Signing a big name to a big contract makes me happy in that it might just make people shut up for a minute on the narrative of Shapiro and Atkins not being able to close a deal or don’t actually want to improve the team.

Those are the crazy cooks. I think the more realistic person has been critical of their early tenure moves by not maximizing their assets at the time. They’ve more or less proven their drafting is solid. Trades tbd. But I’m much more positive on their ability now compared to four years ago.

Ehh. That seems about in line with what he’d get in a non covid year. Hopefully it’s five years and not beyond that.

Not to get ahead of myself here, but if they do sign Springer I wonder if they deal an OFer for a starting pitcher?

Anyways....

SS Bichette
2B Biggio
CF Springer
LF Gurriel
DH Hernandez
3B Vladdy
1B Tellez
RF Grichuk
C Jansen/Kirk

Maybe sign a really good infielder like Colton Wong. When he plays 2nd, move Biggio to 3rd and Vlad a day off or 1st or DHing.

Lots of options if they get Springer signed.

Make it happen please.

Apparently it's a done deal pending a physical.

Heyman is reporting 6 years $150 million?

Well we knew we’d have to overpay to get someone. It’s nice to fill a massive hole like that if it gets done.

Hopefully Bauer is on the fence and this signing pushes him right off the fence and into Shatkins lap.

Ahh man. Sounds like Springer forced the extra year to sign. Not too pleased about that extra year, but the signing of an OF player allows for tons of trade possibilities. Let’s face it, vlad needs to be kept at 1st. So that means getting a 3rd basemen. Grichek is the obvious man out. And I love that.
