That first period is why you pay the bucks for a proper #1 goaltender. Any of the past seasons and the Flames are down 3 or 4 after that period. Instead Markstrom bails them out hard and the Flames flip the script in the 2nd, I haven't seen this team play that confidently in front of a netminder since Kipper

Yeah I think that's a dumb tie breaker, since in the playoffs, the better defensive team is more likely to do some damage.

Doesn't really matter what the tie breaker is, Montreal is about to play 3 straight games against the team that couldn't put a single goal of their own past Markstrom. They're going to bank a few points. Toronto will be tougher.

The first was a tragedy except for Markstrom who was all world great.

The rest of the game was excellent. Loved what I saw from Gaudreau and Monahan. Hope they keep it up.

Sometimes Simon looked a little out of place, but I think he will settle in nicely as the season goes on.

Gaudreau was great tonight. Really looking dangerous, some vintage Johnny stick handling.

Bennett had problems all night.

Hope Dube isn't hurt badly, that line looked simply dominant at times.

What can you say about Markstrom. He kept us in the game in the first team comes out guns blazing in the second. That's what a good goalie does.

Ward deserves credit with his line decisions, down Dube and still manages to keep the lines fresh and ticking throughout the game.

Vancouver fans on suicide watch. Starting to realize what a good goalie and a solid defensive defenseman really do in games.

It's amazing what good goaltending can do to a team. In years past the game would have been over after the 1st period and we would have bemoaning the fact that we wish we still had Kiprusoff.

Times are a changin and it's not unreasonable to say that Markstrom is going to help us win games when were being out played.

Meanwhile up in Greaserville they're franticaly scanning the waiver wire looking for a capable goalie with NHL experience to backup Koskonen.
