Yes. The Oilers have a much larger fan base. In my experience there are Oiler fans in every city and town in Alberta.
I would go so far as to say the Oilers are easily the 3rd most popular team in Canada.

They’re obsessed with lotteries in Edmonton.

Going to be a great day when we don't have to see Lucic penciled anywhere in the lineup, guy is pretty terrible.
First NHL game in 13 months. And I didn't think he was too bad. He has speed and size, will go to the net, and can finish.
Last 11 games in VAN, 5G, 3A, 8 pts, and he played at a 43 pt pace for the season.
Let's give him a chance with Monahan and Gaudreau (like 10 games), because if it works, it sets up our lines tremendously.
Also, playing the Nucks might be just the spark to get him going.

Gretzky and now McDivot have certainly pulled in a lot of fans.

Yeah it was weird seeing a fair bit of Oiler representation down in Lethbridge when I was there, since geographically it doesn't make much sense.
Lots of rural Gretzky/McDavid vanilla bandwagoners.

Edmonton is such a dump, Edmontonians are trying to win their way out of there.

The entire culture of the organization (and city) is built around lotteries.

I think this is actually true.
Most lottery tickets are purchased by poor and dumpy people .
It's sort of how the richer get richer and the poor get poorer.

A lot of it has to do with the Oilers being a really good team and winning SC's right after they joined the NHL. The Flames were a good team too, but if you were an Albertan not constrained by city boundaries on who to cheer for, it was pretty easy to migrate to that club when they owned the league for half a decade.
I was in college for part of that time in Lethbridge and it was like a 3:1 ratio for Oiler fans over Flames fans and the majority of students were from Southern AB.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like him and think he has a lot to offer, I'm just saying if he's not showing much again tonight having maybe he and Simon switch for a game or two before Leivo gets going wouldn't be the worst idea. If he does play as well as he can I agree he would add a lot to that line. Hopefully it starts tonight.

I think part of it too is the migration direction. I would guess that 1/10 moves between Calgary and Edmonton for work is North.

Time to feast on Hamonic, can't wait to see Matthew and Johnny come down his side and make him their beeeeatch.
Back in, back in, give more space and time, back in, drop to a knee and swing his stick while screening his goalie.

Unless were playing Bennett with Dube, leave Sam with Backs.
