The Flames also got lucky with Andersson not getting the clear delay of game penalty and with the Jets getting a too many men on the ice penalty when there was clearly only 5 players on the ice.

Was one of Giordano or Andersson on for every goal tonight? Pretty rough outing for them.

Didn't notice Sean line at all tonight. Bad game picking up where they left off.

Lindholm line was good in the first, meh rest of game.

When Bennett switched to Backs line that was our best line from there on out.

Tanev was great, I thought Hanifin was good too, they were our top pairing tonight.

Valamaki is looking wasted on the third pairing. Time to move Gio off top assignments.

Didn't see much from Leivo and Nordstrom. Early times.

Overall we were lucky with the point.

Plus the Oilers are winning and McDavid has a hat trick. This is not an auspicious day.

Remember it was pretty much a preseason game too. Both teams were pretty sloppy at times and both teams looked tired in the third.

There are very few players in the NHL who had good first games.

90% of the players out there fumble the puck when they have it for more than 2 seconds and most can't make good passes.

Andersson will be fine

Though that was bad coverage that led to the 2 on 1, but I think Markstrom was extremely unlucky in OT. Liane whiffed on his first attempt which made it kind of an awkward save afterwards. 9 times out of 10 that kind of gaffe results in nothing.

Not sure how we're supposed to win games when our top line is dog#### 5 v 5. Monahan again with another ghost performance. At least Johnny tries to create offense.

Is it just me, or does this team hate second periods?

You can say the combo.

Good news is Lindy and Chucky look like they can lead the team in scoring so you can break the Monahan pair up for a good long while.

Ive said for a couple of years now that Monahan so automatically defers to Gaudreau 100 percent of the time.

But, this thread is soon to be or already is a thriving nest of negative Nellie's about Monahan. CPs new whipping boy.

I liked:

Tkachuk - Lindholm - Dube

Though Dube kind of faded as the game went along, that line was very clearly our top line.

Mangiapane - Backlund - Bennett

It's a shame we had to move Bennett to wing to get much out of the other two, but these three had chemistry and fit together.

Rasmus Andersson - He's pretty much our #1D at this point

I did not like:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Leivo

I'll cut Leivo some slack given this was his first game back from a lengthy injury, but he other two were as bad as ever at even strength. I really hope Ward has the guts to split them up or we're in for yet another predictable year.

Mangiapane - Backlund - Ryan

Just no chemistry here.

Lucic / Nordstrom. These two were a tirefire. I really hope this isn't this year's Versteeg-Brouwer / Jankowski-Reider / Jankowski-Neal.

Noah Hanifin. I suspect Valimaki is en route to overtaking him sooner rather than later.

No real opinion on Tanev, Giordano, Valimaki based on tonight. They weren't great, they weren't bad.

Seems I made the correct decision turning off the game almost as soon as it began due to Sportsnet wonderful production quality with outstanding picture and perfectly sync'd audio.

Oh well first game, maybe both the team and sportsnet will improve for the next one.

If nothing else at least it's a distraction from the usual day to day these days?

Meet the new Flames, same as the old Flames.

I moved to Australia in November 2009. Still waiting to watch a home opener win here.

Flames fans are better off just keeping the TV off and staying away from the Internet for the first couple days of each season.
