I don't see it. Johnny, as we very well all know, is one year away from UFA status after this season. If anything CBJ is most likely pretty warry of any potential flight risks. That would be like the Flames trading Tkachuk for Taylor Hall and a 1st.....Please.

No way they give us a 22 year old asset for that. 1st round pick is nice, but it should be in the 20-30 range.

Paying the steep price on Dubois would be about maintaining a young group of high end players, and Valimaki + Hanifin as our LHD with Andersson as our RHD gives us a young core on defence which is important to staying competitive for the long haul.

Lindholm/Dubois/Monahan looks like championship quality depth to me, that would be my biggest goal in going after Dubois.

Fair enough but then you need to make sure the minutes are spread out pretty evenly. Can't be paying Monahan ~$6.5 MM to play third line minutes.

Yeah, but they'd also then have Johnny with 1 year left after this season who would be worth some top quality pieces. Likely a top prospect + 1st + either another 1st or a 2nd.

So they could stay competitive this year, and then still get a bounty of futures alongside our 2021 1st.

If I was in Columbus' spot right now, I'd go full rebuild as it was. I'd go after a futures-heavy deal - but I don't think their GM is in that mindset.

That’s seriously undervaluing Johnny. If you’re giving up the best player in a trade, you’re not adding to the pot.

I just hope if they do acquire Dubois, Lindholm and Monahan are still a part of this team. Aside from that, I'm pretty okay with anything else.

Btw - is Dubois expected to play for Columbus or is he sitting out? If he is playing, this may take a long time to sort out and I doubt we see a deal until the deadline.

Oh most definitely. With a roster constructed like that, you HAVE to roll your lines. That's where the strength of the build comes through.

He's going to play. By all accounts, he's handling it as a pro would. Let it be known he wants out, but then focusing on being the best teammate/player he can be.

Is Gaudreau the best player in that trade? Arguably, yes if he gets back to normal

Is Gaudreau the most valuable asset in that trade? No, I think that is Dubois with his age and current contract.

I wonder if CBJ uses this as means to get out of another contract. The rumor this past fall when the Flames were talking to them about Anderson was also moving Merzlikins.

Not saying the Flames want that but maybe another team does or can make it work.

I seriously hope that if we are in pursuit of PLD we offer more picks to keep this team in tacked as much as possible. This to me is more of an all in moment so i would not be interested in trading Money or Johnny in this one. Unfortunately this is probably less likely to get the deal done.

It has to be Monahan as the central piece.

I shudder to think about Monahans stock/trade value without Gaudreau feeding him pucks. No point to having Monahan if you have Dubois. Not to mention the fact that Columbus needs a center back. Plus how much better our lines would work.

Hopefully the Flames strike when the iron is hot and take advantage of their only extended break of the regular season. Doing the deal sooner than later definitely minimizes the impact of quarantining.

Rumor is that Florida is looking into Dubois too, ostensibly to bolster their center depth long term while Lundell develops.

Interesting scenario: Gaudreau for Dubois as the basis, Monahan for Huberdeau as the basis. Creates a little francophone core for Pelletier too.

Honestly though I'm getting pretty jazzed up for this season and am now wanting to see if Gaudreau-Monahan just had an aberrant season last year.
