Based on that low angle replay I’m convinced that was an awful centering pass by Kassian that missed his intended target by a mile and ended up on Nurse’s stick purely by accident.

Flames' D is probably middle of the league, but within the scope of Canadian teams, it's probably 1st or 2nd yes.
If Gio maintains his regular season play they'll be solid back there (the one big "if"). Valimaki is going to be an absolute beauty player. I can see him thriving in a season against the north division, which isn't exactly high end.
