I had never heard of it, or Parlor until the last week.

Every single name on their membership list will get a going over and see if there is data that moves them higher on the person of interest list. Ignoring that is just ignoring the reality of how investigations are done. Just like any ####### with an account on Stormfront was considered a racist white nationalist until proven otherwise, #######s who flocked to Parler will be lumped in the same way with those who partook in sedition against the United States. Parler is a treasure trove of evidence and the authorities will exhaust it before clearing anyone. The spider web there is going to lead some very interesting directions.

I actually browsed Stormfront before. I fell through a rabbit hole and came across it. It was filled with the most vile and disgusting things you could imagine. It was fascinating on an academic level to get a glimpse into that world, so I wouldn't fault someone for just looking to see just how bad it was.
The weird thing about it though, is there was a fair number of people that posted there who had dissenting opinions and signed up to express them. Not a high enough number to the point that the general idea of the type of people who posted there is different than what you would think, but there were some. I remember one guy who identified as black was praised by other members for having the courage to sign up to post in what he knew would not be a safe place for him.
There was also quite a bit of infighting between different white supremecist groups, which was one of the weirder things I learned. There were some people who were hardcore Hitler supporting Nazis and then those who felt Hitler was a race traitor for classifying other white people as lesser people than Aryans. There were others who thought all races were equal, but were just against racial mixing. They supported ideas that you could probably describe as segregation where races form nations within a nation. Just from my limited viewing, it seemed like some of them hated each other as much as they did non-whites. They even used to argue how white you have to be to be white.

Only a regular user would know this. Because, frankly, i've never heard of it until it was in the news this past week.

The way I came across it was from something that was posted on Parodox game forums. They are the company that makes the Crusader Kings and Europe Universalis franchises. I didn't realize what the site was all about until I checked. I thought it was some WW2 thing at first.

I never heard of Stormfront as well. If I had no context from this thread I would have thought it was the name of a video game developer.

A little side note to the StormFront discussion. The son of the founder was considered the next bright star of the white nationalist movement, and came up with the idea of having white nationalists run for office. Ironically, once he got exposed to non-white nationalists, he changed his view
Some of his story is here:

When I read stormfront on this thread, I thought it was a reference from The Boys. Never heard of it except in that concept
I guess that must be where they got her inspiration from.
Edit just read looch city’s post. Haha

Sorry for the obscure reference folks (Stormfront). Spend years in a sphere and you kind of think it is common knowledge type of thing. My bad.

I think it was more well known around 10+ years ago when web forums were more popular. You rarely hear it talked about these days.

I've mentioned before that I stumped upon Stormfront while Googling the Wolfenstein reboot that came out about 10 years ago. They were complaining about how the Nazis were portrayed in that game. I always considered them a joke after that.

I wonder if the most recent blip is due to the The Boys Amazon Prime show.

It’s Parler, as in the French ‘to speak’ but pronounced the redneck way. Or maybe it’s a misspelling of Parlour, as in a place to gather and talk. So much fail.

It's definitely the former, the CEO had said the intention was that it would be pronounced "parlay". The user base just assumed it was "parlour" though, so Parler just rolled with it.

It absolutely shouldn't, but it still blows my mind that a sitting US president has not done a live address to the nation after the capitol was attacked. I mean, we all know why, but wow.
