Chevdayoff? The GM who sat on his hands for the first several years. They have one run to the third round and 2 first round exits in 9 years. Brutal.

Benning has made far worse signings and trades that I can even take your post seriously.

Sutter, Myers, Erickson Beagle, Rousel, Baertschi quickly off the top of my head. He took Juolevi over Tkachuk.

You want him over Treliving? You are just a hater

Edit. Ped has a great post in the VNG thread highlighting what Benning has done. Again only a hater can say they prefer him the Treliving

re Benning... there is also the complete mess with respect to cap management - rebuilding teams should not be losing players because they can't afford to keep them

That’s a historically bad take LOL.

Also, both Niemi and Thomas were UFA signings.

Ed Belfour is the best example of a team changing UFA goalie to win a cup. Many of the others are technically true, but I think you can make the case that Thomas/Niemi were 'homegrown' by BOS and CHI, even if they were plucked off the trash heap as UFAs.

Osgood of course was a team changing UFA signing...though it was back to the team that grew him and knew him inside/out.

Boomer is going crazy. Saying he would give up Lindholm, Pelletier, and a 1st for Dubois

Now Rhett is offering Lindholm+Hanifin+1st

Boomer doesn’t think that gets it done

The guys on Fan960 are saying the CBJ would not be interested in Monahan for Dubois except as a throw in to make the salary work. That's basically a direct quote.

They think the centerpiece would be Valimaki, and they think that CBJ wouldn't want Monahan. If we offered Monahan, they'd ask for Lindholm instead.

Boomer said he would be do: Lindholm + 1st + Pelletier for Dubois. Another option approved by Boomer was Lindholm + Hanifin + 1st.

Oh, and now Warrener said he would do Lindholm + Hanifin + 1st, but then Boomer said he wanted Valimaki instead of Hanifin.

............

I love Dubois. The things I've read say Dubois is better than Monahan right now, and he is 4 years younger. And I have been an advocate of Monahan + 1st. But these guys are crazy. Monahan is not a throw in to make the salary work. In a full season, he scores 25-30 goals like clockwork.

This will sound dumb, but I heard that and thought how bad it would look to have Lindholm help recruit his best friend to play goal here only to trade Lindholm shortly after.

If it takes Lindholm, I can't see the Flames doing it. I really can't.

I think we need to see Lindholm at center for longer than 28 games before we ship him off for a guy a little younger, especially along with other premium assets. Including Lindholm takes the luster off it for me.

I doubt Columbus would go for it (or the Flames would do it) but the idea that Valimaki would go back to them in a trade does make sense value wise. And as noted on the Fan, the Jackets have made a similar trade in the past. Top C for D.

Yeah, if that is the cost then the Flames are better off not trading for him. Dubois still needs to take the next step and if we trade all of that and he doesn't, major step back.

There is a reason these guys work in radio, not hockey.

Why not include Tkachuk and Gaudreau as well? Maybe also throw in a 2022 1st?

How about Lindholm, Hanifin, Tkachuk, Gaudreau, 2021 1st and 2022 1st. For Dubois.

We might also need to give them Monahan as a throw in to make salary work.

I thought Boomer and Rhett had it right. PLD isn't going to come cheap. There will likely be several serious bidders. Put yourself in Columbus' shoes. Most people here are more than prepared to move on from Monahan. Why would he be an appealing asset to CBJ? If I'm CBJ, sure, I will take him but I'm also taking Valamaki. I don't think Monahan would be the central piece coming back to CBJ. The Flames are going to have to sweeten the pot by a considerable margin if they want to include Monahan. If I'm CBJ and the Flames are not prepared to meet my price, I'm moving on. Some team out there will step up.

Lindholm + Hanafin + a 1st or Lindholm + Peltier + 1st is not far off the package CBJ would be looking for in my mind.

These are packages reserved for guys like Eichel, not Dubois. I'd love Dubois, but that is an insane package for a guy that wants out

They are just speculating what it will take. Rhett definitely seems to be putting a huge amount of stock in the one big playoff game
