Interesting timing with Mangiapane slotting on the Gaudreau and Monahan line today in practice. He's definitely a unique offensive player given his size, tenacity, and sneaky lethal shot. Great backhand use throughout this video, and he's also very good about moving laterally across the crease to try and stuff a puck into the farside of the net around the goalie.
OT Wins video out tomorrow, and I'm going to try and squeeze the 2 Gaudreau parts and Comeback Wins videos out in time still. Might be tight for Thursday's game.
Man, that Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane line was really clicking. I hope we see a great portion of this shortened season with that trio in tact. It eases pressure on the Monahan and Gaudreau duo to get all of the offense going.
Mangiapane was HOT prior to the covid stoppage. He was 14 points in his last 14 regular season games (with help from a 4 point game against Anaheim in that span). He's going to be a good one to keep track of and likely a guy that will be sticking around for a long time when he is one of the few that needs a raise come 2022.
He had some absolute beauty goals against Edmonton last year....wish he was able to finish that one off against Philly that hit the post. This player is really special, excited to see him this year

I wanted to look it up because I thought I might be correct.
He scored 6 points against the Oilers. Lindholm also had 6 (including 5 goals!).
No other player had more than 4 points against them.
I dub him with a new moniker: "Oiler-killer".

My new theory is that Mangiapane is not being exposed. Neither is Dube which means it's Backlund or Bennett. At first I was bummed that it looks like Bennett might not get as much time at centre as I was hoping but now I think there is a plan. And as crazy as it sounds I think that plan is to actually expose Backlund not Bennett. You'd think that with the expansion draft coming up they'd need to see Bennett at centre to see what they have in him, but I think they know what they have in him as a centre and see him as the third line centre for years to come. What they don't know is if Lindholm can be successful as a centre which is why I think we will be seeing a season of Monahan Lindholm Backlund as centres. If Lindholm succeeds its all the easier to expose Backlund because we know Bennett can handle 3rd line centre, what we were unsure of was if Lindholm or Bennett could handle 2nd line centre duties.
Losing Backlund will be a hit but I think we have enough defensibly responsible player to move to a shutdown by committee approach. Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane will be able to handle tough minutes. Ryan's line will be able to take some hard minutes too and I think Bennett is actually decent defensively, so if he ends up on a line with two other decent two-way guys they could also handle more difficult minutes.
