He even repeatedly said to "keep things peaceful". So did a lot of Democrats last spring. If you see clips of buildings on fire, and the next clip is Tom Perez talking about how the "protests" are giving voice to deep seated inequalities in society, the message is not "I'm against what's happening". For those who didn't shrug it off, the message was often, "I don't condone violence, but I completely understand why this is happening because we've suffered with racism and inequality for too long", which, fair enough, but it's certainly not a message that's going to dissuade the people doing it.

Biden certainly came out with some strong condemnations, but not until later on.
I actually think you should go on Netflix right now, and watch the trial of the Chicago 7. What Trump did was on an almost identical to those guys (save the fact that he's a coward that ran off to his bunker as soon as he started the riot), 5 of them were criminally convicted of incitement. Once again the biggest difference, they had a legitimate political cause. They just participated in illegitimate political actions. While Trumpers don't even really have a political cause, they just want to win for the sake of winning without any purpose, talk to these people, the want to "Make American Great", "Stop the Steal", "Keep those Commies out of office", "Protect the Economy", "Show the Libs". Ask them what any of that means, none of it means anything, it's just take lines they use to justify their desire to win for the sake of winning.

Democrats have not taken part in criminal actions, they did not tacitly support criminal actions, at the first opportunity they stopped the criminal actions. This comparison only serves as an entrance to the rabbit hole, because it's not a legitimate comparison.

Uh, I have seen that movie... leaving aside the fact that that's a dramatization for entertainment purposes and not a documentary, I'm not sure that's the comparison you want to make. They were wrongly convicted by a biased judge, and later had all of their convictions vacated.

If your argument is, at its core, "our cause is just, and the other side's cause is evil, so we get to break the rules and they don't", that's an immediate losing argument because there is no one who is empowered to determine which causes are just and which ones aren't.

5 of their convictions were upheld, because they were righty convicted. What Trump did is criminal in the US.

And the core of my argument is saying the democrats are responsible for their extremists, is an attribution error.
While saying the Republicans are responsible for their extremists is correct.
So you are dealing with different classes of problems.

People have been doing this for 1000's of years. Trump is behaving very similar to Marc Anthony before Caesar had to remove and replace him. Had to do some digging and found a video I had watched a year ago and the parallels are shocking in their similarity to the current state of US politics...

Scholars of the classics would always preface the sources of the time as being exaggerated tall tales written by the victors. However, I am not so sure about that now, given the craziness happening in the States at the moment.

... No, they weren't? Where are you getting your information? They were all reversed on appeal.

You're not wrong about the nature of the riot in Seattle, but you are wrong to apply the narrative to the Democratic party, in the way this narrative should be applied to the Republican party.
True, most of the Democratic leadership repudiated the anarchist actions in the NW. But local governments in the cities, as well as some elements of the party, seemed to at least tacitly tolerate the behaviour. There was an uproar over the deployment of the national guard to defend federal buildings from rampaging mobs. Which is a bit awkward when you consider what has happened in the last few days.

Can’t remember where I saw it and wish I had taken a screen shot but there was a demonstration in Red Deer by a medium-sized group of morons holding pro-Trump signs such as “Stop the steal.” I also saw a post/tweet where someone wrote something to the effect of, “If America doesn’t want Trump he can come up and run our country.” It may have been in the Angry Albertan group on Facebook where the idiots fluff each other and spew their racist, anti-COVID BS.

It’s alarming - not that they can start a big movement but that these people live here.

I wouldn’t worry too much about that. There will always be a handful of people who are trouble makers or are looking for attention. Always has been, always will be. We just get subjected to it more because of social media.

New video shows more violent acts than originally reported.

It would have been really interesting to see what would have happened had they captured Pence or any Dems.

The guy with the zip ties clearly had taking hostages in mind.

If Trump escapes this without consequences the US will have changed forever.

My ceiling has way more water and smoke damage. Does that make mean I should worry about Biden’s tax plan? The tweet is unclear why clean ceilings are a dealbreaker.
