Okay, so how do you means test in a quick way to determine who needs it? Is it just those who are unemployed? What about the ones who don't qualify for unemployment? How about people who aren't unemployed but have seen their hours or wages reduced?
Unemployment covers all those cases. Funding should mostly be directed to further enhancing, extending and making it easier to get.
Give money back through tax returns this year to people who had a drop in income from 2019. Taxes will start to be done in the next few weeks.
At very least, make the income threshold a lot lower for who gets those checks and double the amount sent out. Lower income people were on average much more affected, so at least that would better target people affected, and not be sent to so many office workers working from home.
You keep saying means tested like it's an ugly word. I'm suggesting targeting to the people impacted. Blind Stimulus isn't needed this time around, we should helping the people who've been hurt financially by COVID.
Yes, for someone to be acquitted there would have been a trial. Considering Mitch McConnell refused to cooperate and conduct an actual trial, I'm not sure we can say Trump was acquitted. More accurate to say "the DA" chickened out when they saw who the accused was and understood the overall embarrassment to his community the process would be.
As pissed as we all are about the circus that occurred in the senate, he was acquitted by the rules of the senate.
He may not be acquitted in any of our minds, but as far as the US Government is concerned, which is the ruling body on this subject, he was acquitted.
It is entirely false to say anything else is more accurate.
Ron Reagan Jr. just appeard on Conan O'Brien's podcast, and it's pretty great. Lots of discussion on the insane shenanigans at the Capital the other day, as well as the current state of the GOP.
For a guy who grew up surrounded by Republican royalty, he sure has some pretty liberal views of things. Seems like a very different person from his father.

In an interview with the Anchorage Daily News, Murkowski said:
“I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage… I think he should leave. He said he’s not going to show up. He’s not going to appear at the inauguration. He hasn’t been focused on what is going on with COVID. He’s either been golfing or he’s been inside the Oval Office fuming and throwing every single person who has been loyal and faithful to him under the bus, starting with the vice president. He doesn’t want to stay there. He only wants to stay there for the title. He only wants to stay there for his ego. He needs to get out. He needs to do the good thing, but I don’t think he’s capable of doing a good thing,”
Murkowski went on to insinuate that she could be considering leaving the GOP:
“I was a Republican who ran a write-in campaign and I was successful. But I will tell you, if the Republican Party has become nothing more than the party of Trump, I sincerely question whether this is the party for me.”

Sidney Powell getting sued by Dominion Voting machines for $1.3Billion because of her "release the kraken" voter fraud allegation/conspiracy theory lawsuits when it was non-existent.
Quote:
Dominion Voting Systems has filed a suit against former Trump campaign attorney Sidney Powell, alleging that her widespread, unfounded conspiracy theories led to both reputational damage to the company and death threats against its employees. Dominion is seeking $1.3 billion in damages.
Statements made by Powell, "in concert with allies and media outlets" presenting a "false preconceived narrative" about the 2020 election, caused "unprecedented harm" to Dominion, the company said in its suit (PDF).
Powell is the attorney who filed the "kraken" lawsuits seeking to de-certify the results of the 2020 election. The Trump campaign abruptly cut ties with Powell in late November, but that stopped neither her increasingly outrageous claims nor her increasingly ludicrous lawsuits from flowing. Not only were Powell's suits based on unfounded conspiracy theories, but they were also just plain bad filings in myriad other ways, including naming locations that didn't exist, misspelling ones that did, and naming plaintiffs who had not agreed to participate in the case.
There has been no occurrence or proof of widespread voter fraud in any state, but that has not stopped Trump allies from continuing to make false claims that the election was in some way "rigged."
A senator since 2002 calls out Trump after congress is stormed and Trump is 2 weeks away from leaving office.
I know this is good news that the GOP is turning on him, but these words now just scream to me - opportunist and even more lack of backbone than if she did nothing. I know, this horse has been beaten to death in this thread, but it is just so dumb.

Leaving the GOP and cabinet now reminds me of Tom Cruise’s character in Valkyrie. It’s nice you are finally making a stand now but where the hell were you years ago trying to prevent the damage from occurring in the first place?

Not to make light of murder but my money is on a Trumper killing a Dem State Rep.
So many options though:
Trumper murders Dem Senator
Trumper murders GOP Senator
Trumper murders Dem House Rep.

Profiting from it of course by not having the stress of dealing with angry pro-trump voters.

Sending out checks to everyone is a much fairer and easier process.
At the very least, doing so amounts to a tax break, or rebate, or reduction.
And providing more money to everyone—from those who pay six-plus figure amounts in federal income taxes to those who pay absolutely nothing—gets money into the economy and creates or maintains jobs for everyone.
If you want money in the hands of people now, then cut the roadblocks to doing so, which include any sort of means testing or targeting.

And on the stimulus check issue, I’m shocked that Manchin would be against them.
Surely he knows that his constituents need a new jacked-up pickup truck with mudding tires, a confederate flag, a shotgun, or a new roof or vinyl skirting for the double wide trailer, and $2000 will help buy those things and keep his voters mobile, politically active, fed, and housed.
