In a perfect world we could protect all of:

Gaudreau
Monahan
Tkachuk
Lindholm
Dube
Mangiapane
Bennett
Backlund

Andersson
Hanifin
Gio
Kylington

Markstrom

As bad as it is to think, it’s somewhat lucky Valimaki didn’t play last year or else we would have even larger problems.
I feel like part of the reason we're seeing such a push for Lindholm and Bennett to move to Center this season, is because Backlund is likely who they want taken via expansion. Considering his age and contract, getting out of that deal for free would be a blessing.

Forward protection list should be:
Tkachuk
Gaudreau
Lindholm
Monahan
Mangiapane
Dube
Bennett

Backlund would be an even tougher departure than Brodie.

13 years in the organization and given us so many great moments and seasons.

But yes... if someone current in the depth chart can adequately replace what he brings to the 2C position, its wise asset management to expose him.

I don’t know why we don’t shelve this discussion until after the season is over and we see what kind of regular season/postseason Bennett, Dube, Mangiapane and Backlund have.

This season will be the determining factor IMO.

If Bennett blows the doors off this regular season and has another typical postseason and Mang and Dube progress as well I think we will have to look at making a trade or exposing Backlund.

Time will tell, so let’s give it time.

Just a suggestion, can’t we just keep this thread for PRACTICE NOTES and put all the other stuff in a different thread. Why do specific threads always lead to an endless free for all .

Ah...were all like a bunch of horny teenagers when it comes to hockey.

You see the boobies and you get all twitterpated and forget about what the topic was.

We were talking about practice and then......

I found out in the random thoughts thread that boobies is more akin to a 10 year olds thoughts.

This was from yesterday, but I don't think it's been posted yet...

It always surprises me when you see an interview with a European player and he has no hint of an accent. Although, I guess he's been playing in the States since he was 14, so it makes sense that he'd be pretty fluent by now.

Also, he looks like he has really bulked up since his first rookie camp.

It would be great if he can turn into another great late-round steal because he was undersized at the draft.

Not sure if this was mentioned:
https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/camp...21/c-320020088

Coming Soon
The Flames will play their first inter-squad scrimmage on Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. Team Iginla and Team McDonald will take part in morning skates in order to replicate a full game day.

Highlights from the scrimmage will be posted on Thursday evening and live coverage will be provided on Twitter.

The second scrimmage will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11, which will live-streamed on CalgaryFlames.com.

Not sure why tomorrow's game won't be streamed as well.

This is quite typical of Norwegians, who all start learning English at around age 12. I have known numerous Norwegians living in Norway whose English is so flawless that they could easily pass for native English speakers.

With Zary and Pelletier coming in after the game tonight they honestly don't have enough (any) runway to make a hockey team (not that I thought their chances were all that strong anyway).

A normal camp would feature both in two or three exhibition games, and if they did enough they'd stick to last cuts.

But there is zero time for experimentation in a camp like this, and even less left with the first game a week away.

This is just to get them here, then send them to AHL camp, and then likely back to junior before the AHL season starts.

It would be good to see what he have with these older prospects. Pelletier could turn out to be a decent NHLer but I wouldn't want to rush his development unnecessarily. We arent so desperate for talented depth like the clowns up north that we throw our prospects to the wolves asap

You would think the handling of Bennet, among others, would have demonstrated the importance of AHL seasoning to Flames fans. It’s an enormous step up from jr to the NHL, and almost all prospects benefit from time in the AHL playing against men.

I read it as the scrimmage will be on Twitter today and on the website on the 11th.

I find that Scandinavian accents in general are not too much different than Canadian accents. Like Backlund, Andersson and Lindholm have accents that could easily be from somewhere in Canada that I just haven't visited yet.

I don't think that is what is happening here. I see a lot of postersvery eager to see these guys scrimmages and playing at a higher level to see what the Flames have. I feel pretty good about these guys given how the Flames have handled their recent prospects.

They don't fool me for a moment. Extremely few native English speakers actually speak flawless English.

I have Norwegian family (including immediate family members). I can detect a trace in Pettersen's speech.

Most of the Norwegians I know speak with a British inflection, no doubt due to their schooling. Not the case with Pettersen, obviously.
