I'll say the same thing I said previously: the travel issue is an issue because of the lying and the hypocrisy around it. Once you get down to going after municipal folk and non-government people (like admin staff) you've lost the plot.
When the people who are directly responsible for travel advisements and pandemic restrictions overall, the ones telling us all to stay home with the power to do so, are the same people going on vacation out of country, that's an issue. It's not recommended, but it's allowed, so the issue comes from the hypocrisy, self-entitlement, and the lying of it.
Nenshi having two staff go on vacation doesn't bother me as much as some of the others because there's no lying (probably by necessity, considering everyone is getting caught out on it), and these people are in no position to tell us not to travel outside the province.
The orchestrated Christmas videos, the "I had no idea!" lies, and the "gee golly I've just worked so hard/I had to keep the tradition alive!" nonsense are all ridiculous. Does this deserve the same scorn? Not to me, really.

The issue is Nenshi castigating regular Calgarians to go beyond the legal minimums for social distancing, while signing off on his closest staff member going on an international vacation.
I also wonder about the culture of some of these organizations. I work in tech, and there wasn’t anybody on any of the teams at two different companies who took an airplane vacation over Christmas. Or of they did, they were secretive about it, because they knew it would be a really bad look with their colleagues.

Castigating? Really? Got a link as a reference for that over the past few months?
He's taken a pretty hard line on anti-mask protestors and people flagrantly breaking restrictions. He's also encouraged people to find new ways to gather (namely outside for "hot chocolates" or whatever before outside gathering was banned too).
But I haven't seen him "castigating" regular Calgarians. Perhaps you could provide that link to show him reprimanding people otherwise following official restrictions.

Hard to believe all these public facing employees in government (and yeah, Nenshi's chief of staff is public facing) didn't have the foresight to know this would look bad. To me it's disappointing at every level of government.

Ban travel if it shouldn't be allowed, but firing cabinet ministers, etc, for something the gov't permits is horrifically stupid and short sighted. Same with Nenshi's CoS, etc.

The whole witchhunt going on right now is absolutely nauseating and embarrassing as a country that prides itself on freedom, especially considering how it handled the pandemic this whole time on that very principle which caused the mess we have to begin with.
On one side you have the morons marching downtown against masks, on the other side you have the woke / cancel culturists looking at flight itineraries to shame people on Twitter (pushed forward by political affiliation of course). The #whereistrudeau silliness is an example of that.
Meanwhile, available flights on Westjet are mainly booked by Albertans of all types (let's stop pretending that flights are only available to the rich), planes to the US and Mexico are packed. Look at booking a flight to Mazatlan right now from Calgary, flights are totally sold out for a few days.
We have doctors and CEOs of health boards travelling to the Caribbean's and forced to resign under public pressure for non essential travel.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamil...d-19-1.5862449
Hadju traveled multiple times for non essential travel during travel bans including long weekends, and it's ok. No apology, nothing. Scheer caught without a mask at a time when people were allowed to gather 100 people for a wedding? Front page story. Hadju caught without a mask at a time when cases are skyrocketing? It's ok.
My biggest problem is how politics and party affiliation is the biggest factor in this fake outrage. The media will latch on to a narrative and stick with it.
Outrage should not be situational. I have a problem with hypocrisy, both in the "do what I say not what I do" policy makers and how the outrage is more based on political affiliation.
If Kenney's chief of staff is a big deal (and I don't think it is as they are not a policy maker), then Nenshi's chief of staff should be a big deal (and I don't think it is). Allard on the other hand is a policy maker and should have certainly known better, and she should have rightfully resigned. Of course I also fully believe Hadju should resign, but Liberals can do no wrong and I am sure I will get someone to Hadju's defense coming my way.
You cannot have it both ways. If you want to make selective examples, ban travel outright, no exceptions, no "Thunder Bay to Ottawa" long weekend trip, no Hawaii trips.
Stop this stupid witchhunt, but if the cancel culture must do it, do it uniformly.

Nominations for the October election are officially open now and you can see who's running for the various races here: https://www.calgary.ca/election/info...rd=All%20wards
I don't live in her riding anymore, but I am astounded that DCU is running again.

Livewire Calgary is doing excellent coverage of candidates. Brad Field's write-up is here:

As far as I can tell he is a fiscal conservative centrist.

Argh...really? Here's hoping there isn't a big vote split between all the other candidates in Ward 13 like last time.
EDIT: DCU had the lowest winning percentage of votes of all councillors in the 2017 election. 5 other candidates in Ward 13 got at least 10% of the total votes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_C...cipal_election

He owns two commercial body shops...one here and one in Vegas. On policy, he seems to echo the "We should run government like a business!" ethos.

People who say they should run government like a business don't really seem to understand the purpose of a government.

Kinda telling that all the MLA travel news went in the Alberta politics thread and MP travel went in the federal politics thread, but Nenshi gets his own thread instead of the YYCCC thread. Because Nenshi always gets his own thread.

I guess what surprises me is that she never really accomplished much of anything for the Ward. I lived there for a long time, and frankly she was completely ineffective. It's hard to judge, but transportation might have been her weakest performance as the "fish creek bottleneck" was an ongoing issue that was never properly addressed.

We really need term limits for municipal government. Three terms for councillor, two for mayor.
