Nah. Canada may have out shot but USA had far better chances. Canada played poorly and created little to nothing
USA knew they had to play a perfect game and they did

Thank you Red Deer, for doing nothing, as you usually do...

Yea, can't really agree that the game was all that close.
For as good as Team USA is, the talent on Team Canada should've completely outmatched them, but through the first two periods, USA completely dominated and outworked Canada.
Sure, Canada technically dominated play in the third and even hit a couple posts, but at that point, Team USA didn't care about offense and were happy to let Canada rack up shots from the point.
The second USA goal was a very unfortunate bounce though.

I agree with CHL, his Corsi stats match the eye test, this team had a lot of trouble scoring against some of the more defensive teams like Czekia and the Slovaks. They did not have elite scoring, and will produce a lot of second and third line players for the NHL.
Still, they could have pulled it out or at least tied it with a few breaks. Canada is always so good, other teams come and go.

Hahaha... take a breath.
The US played a great game, limited Canada’s chances. Canada couldn’t regain composure and elevate. It’s a learning experience.
They’re kids, they never had to come from behind..
This is exactly why I can’t stand this tourney.
It’s all or nothing.
Jingoistic Glory or failure.
For a tournament that no one cares about except this country.

Good tournament and decent effort from the boys, but the better team won today.
I liked Pelletier a lot. I think he's going to be a Mangiapane or Dube clone in the NHL. High energy, feisty, chips in a few points from a middle-6 role.

They played a great team game...they barely had a scoring chance after the first period though
All I said is that is was close...we are talking a post vs. a bounce of the net cam

Pretty impressive to see the USA skate around Canada in the first period like it was two teams from different divisions playing.

Sad that Zary sat for most of this tournament, when things got hard or we needed a big play he was there to make it. He should have been given ample play time over 5-6 guys.
When we needed a big d zone stop his back checking was on point.
But hey, at least we had 4-5 guys show up to blow out the easy teams early on and force the coach into thinking that playing them and giving them big minutes would be beneficial.
- Tomasino, Mercer, Holloway, Suzuki were all no shows for most games.
- McMichael, Krebs and Perfetti were bubble players at best.
- Drysdale invisible/ineffective for the most part
- Byfield had 1 big game but failed to utilize his size for the most part again
- Cozens was good, Pelletier was good, Byram had quite a few good games but again looked gassed this entire gold medal game
Nobody stepped up and carried the team tonight, US played well but Canada didn't push back.

A bit misplaced. Every country that puts a team in cares. If they didn't care they wouldn't make the effort. If these kids didn't put the care or effort in, we wouldn't have much anything to cheer for.

They didn't need one after the first though, it was obvious after the 2-0 goal that they were comfortable out battling the Canadians and playing a solid team defense first game. They play the exact game they wanted to.
Canada was overwhelmed in the first offensively then reduced to outside scoring chances in the second half of the game by a great team defense.
It just goes to prove that teams with all the individual talent in the world can be beaten by a great team with good systems.

So what is this, the second championship won in Edmontons new arena, neither involving the Oilers?

You literally said no one cares about the tournanent except this country, which isn't true. These international tournaments are huge in Europe.

Byfield will not be what LA thinks he can be. That kid doesn't have it.
