Any actual solid #1 d-men on their horizon?
It can't be Bouchard or Broberg, can it?
 |
I don't know if you're joking.

This is Staples we are talking about.

The Oilers could sign a player from the ECHL and he would write up a detailed article about how the player is the number #1 d they have been missing, thus, his tweet today about it coming "soon enough" was correct.

If this did occur, when the player doesn't perform in the impossible expectations in the upcoming season, he will either a) write an article of all the reasons why the player should be excused or b)forget he supported the player to start with.

More like "beauty is in the eye of the bee holder" in this case.
 Jesus those lines.

			Not just depth, major depth.
Is it possible to win two Cups in one year because your team is just so damn good?

Their depth is the envy of the league.
God I would kill to have Archibald - Turris - Puljujarvi as my third line..

Why just two groups? They have enough depth for three, maybe even four.

Maybe we're being too hard on them. Do the Oilers have forward depth so bad, that they have multiple players who wouldn’t make any other team? Absolutely they do.
Would their D-core struggle in a beer league? Of course they would, it is insanely bad.

Does their #1 goaltender have an automatic scoring weakness like an old EA NHL video game? Yes, it looks like his glove is made out of lead.

…can’t really remember where I was going with this, but hey maybe everyone else is wrong.

I suppose Turris could have a comeback season and a more mature Puljujarvi could provide some much needed scoring depth but Koskinen is going to have to be very, very good for them to have any success.

Yeah, just because you can bring 36 players to camp like every other team, it does not mean you have depth. It is called a training camp roster.

Turris hasn't been good for the last couple of years, and at age 31 its unlikely that he's suddenly going to have a career resurgence on the third line of the Oilers. And he's not a defensive stalwart that really shouldn't even be on the third or fourth line. Pool Party could bounce back, and my CPHL team needs him to bounce back.

To be fair he's the same age as the Flames 2nd line center who's also doesn't likely have any career seasons left. I know this is an Edmonton is no good thread but I can see in a shortened season where some things could go the Oilers way.

My view on Turris is that he's the classic misfit, at least at this stage. Not offensively strong enough to be in a top 6 role, and not defensive/strong enough to play a bottom 6 role.
As such, I'm not really seeing a big comeback year from turris in Edmonton. The only way that could happen is if they decide to put mcdavid/draisatl on a line, and maybe put turris with nugent-hopkins on the second line.

Unfit to play: Neal, Kahun, Haas & Shore

James Neal the real deal unfit to deal?

		| 2. This is a major blow to players like Neal, Haas and Shore who are fighting for jobs on an extremely crowded roster of Edmonton Oilers forwards. 3. Compared to previous years, this group of Oilers is deep in NHL-level talent, with the team able to field a fifth line and even sixth line and fourth and even fifth set of d-man which would have made any of the weak teams during the Decade of Darkness.

Well, in his defense... "which would have made any of the weak teams during the Decade of Darkness" is in fact correct (except for the fact that the Decade of Darkness is still going, now in its 15th season)
