My evil heart would like to see him and his adult children dealt with like how the Romanians dealt with Nicolae Ceaușescu in 1989.
But my head says that nothing good would come from that. It would be better let him go out like a weak and feeble minded fool.

Maybe at the very least this will prevent Trump from running in 2024.

At this point the GOP looks like they might actually be on the verge of splitting into two separate parties, with the bats*** crazy Trump loyalists and sycophants on one side, and the old-school traditional Republicans on the other.
|
I think the only way there will be an actual split is if Trump (or a Trump-endorsed candidate) narrowly loses the 2024 primary, at which point starting their own party is a definite possibility. Republicans will ultimately fall in line with power, and if 2022 shows them that Trump-brand politics are enough to win back the house, then that's all they need to see. But the 2022 primary season might be really vicious.

Unless Trump's popularity really slides, it's completely irrelevant. If the "respectable Republicans" decide to start their own party it would be as relevant as leprechauns starting their own. In the world of US politics all incentives are for only two parties, and the structural powers on the right are all bent to Trump (media ecosystem, donors, political foundation).
The only way this ends is if there's ever a crack in the veneer and actual idiot honkeytonks stop selling their soul to him. Full stop. Until then it really doesn't matter what happens within the republican party

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave himself the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

It cheapens it for people who won it, I guess. I'm sure there's a good handful of people who did real good to deserve one, but it sure seems like mostly a list of random movie/music/acting celebrities that supported the president at the time.

He will try to use it like a get out of jail free card when SDNY agents come knocking... I'm sure his kids are getting them too along with a ULTRA PARDON

The Medal of Freedom is pretty much the American version of the OBE/Knighthoods of the UK. The only real difference is that there are different levels one can get in the UK: CBE, OBE, and then a Knighthood.
Frankly, the US should add degrees to the MoF.

There are some pretty undeserving people on that list, and some incredible people to balance it out. A couple of people are really random. A few are just rich. Is it a significant upgrade to be given one With Distinction?
Anthony Fauci given one in 2008. Must irk Trumpy.

Can Medals of Honor be stripped by a future president?
