Icon46 Hamonic to Vancouver on PTO. May have 1 yr deal in place

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Certainly will be more detail in morning, but there are rumblings Travis Hamonic will go to VAN on a PTO. GM Jim Benning and coach Travis Green are scheduled to speak on Sunday.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Hamonic should be a good fit with the Canucks. All indications point at a 1 year deal once Canucks move money or apply LTIR (Ferland).

Good for Travis, but he's way better than PTO status.

With the pandemic still an issue, i'm surprised he's going back at this time.

When you only really want to play for 4 franchises it is not that surprising (maybe only 3 the way negotiations went with the Flames)

I for sure thought he'd sit it out too, given his family issues. But the pandemic isn't going away anytime soon, and he isn't getting younger either.

He was a liability for the Flames vs Colorado and then all last year he was not so good

I was incredibly unimpressed at that and didn’t miss him vs Dallas

Won't risk secured bubble
But will risk 54+ games with travel.

Don't know enough to say anything bad about it, but it's an eyebrow raiser to say the least. There are no half measures with protecting your child's health. You either commit to that or you don't. And risk of infection has if anything increased since the summer.

But you do you man.

I will offer that we know a lot more about the virus and its transmission now than then

I have no trouble defending Hamonic for making a different decision based on having more info available

Welcome him as an opponent

This guy was very much a community guy who made some big contributions above and beyond to Calgary. As I understood it, given the timeframe he chose not to play he had someone in is family in the high risk zone or made that choice at that time given the circumstances.

Either which way, queue the Tanev Hamonic comparisons.

As Reg says, he sits out again, it’s a long road back in Summer/Fall 2021 after being out 18 months.

Also, this PTO may well be a mutual thing for both parties. He may not want to sign a contract yet, and see how the situation and his comfort level plays out in regard to his family situation off the ice once he leaves them and gets into camp.

Harmonic used to be better once upon a time, but he has declined, and Tanev surprisingly recently improved in awesomeness

Most likely scenario is they have a handshake deal, like it seems Hoffman does in st louis, and when ferland goes on LTIR, the space is there for a 1 year deal around 2m

Good depth on the 3rd pair

Boo on anyone passing judgement on a player for sitting out of the bubble. We live in a different world now. More information is known, and things are different - but above all else, it’s a right/option that they had and could enact penalty-free.

Criticize Hamonic for his on-ice performance all you want, but I don’t think it’s anything but a garbage take to be critical of a person for choosing the path Hamonic did at the time he did.

I don't know; at the start of the pandemic, when there was a lot less information available I would say everyone was a lot more fearful/cautious. Now that more information is available and the risks are better understood, he's entitled to change his mind.
I'm glad he's not coming back here though; I'm not sure there's much left in the tank.

I don't think that is entirely fair. A lot of people were freaked out at the time but have come to terms with the pandemic.
