Icon30 Florida allowing fans for Panther games

25% capacity, ~5000 fans. I think they are first NHL team to announce this.

I think Bean said he would like to have fans (duh) but no mention yet from Flames, if or when

Makes sense, looking at that whole division I wouldn't be surprised if they all let Fans in.

AZ will have around 5000 fans per game

So basically like 2009 again

I could see the Flames try something along the lines of allowing some front line workers that have been vaccinated in late January. Most would have their second shot by then.

Just because they’ll allow 5000 doesn’t mean that many will show up.

The challenge with that is that those tickets would have to be free, so from the Flames' perspective, that puts them in an even worse position financially because they would have to fully staff to support the crowds.

Also, it kind of screws STHers... "we're giving your seats to others - thanks for your support!"

As much as that would benefit me, the optics as a health care worker who is being vaccinated in the first wave are awful. I don't think that someone who has been vaccinated should participate in riskier behaviours or actions. Plus it undermines the meaning for why we were in the first wave, that being our continued ability to provide care for critically ill patients in need

Also it's not up to the flames, it's up to the government when they allow spectators and the % of capacity allowed...

Sorry, this makes me chuckle.

Sure, Florida is sliding into the 7th Circle of Hell, but hey, if you really want to fast-track that why not go to a Panthers Game?

I can only speak for myself but I certainly wouldn't be upset about front line workers getting to enjoy a night after what they have been through in the last year.

They'll sell it out no problem if other live sports in those states have been any indication. As well, there are still a ton of snowbirds in Arizona and Florida and it'll be a huge novelty draw this year as well.

The NFL is talking about doing this for the Super Bowl, which is a fantastic gesture for the hell society has put nurses and doctors through.

I know as a STH there is an option to donate tickets. Even for the military night they usually sends out an email a couple months prior asking if STH would like to donate their tickets. I could see them trying something like that and see if any STH would want to make a "donation" from their Flames account (be an amount to help offset cost).

Logistics would be another thing as you probably wouldn't have full concessions. Obviously getting way ahead of ourselves here, but I also think it would be a nice gesture.

I get it, and you are right the optics would be bad if they did this on the 14th for their first game. February we hopefully will be closer to the end of phase one and prepping for the second phase of the vaccination plan (knock on wood another vaccine helps push the timeline). Once priority one is done, I think it would be a nice gesture and I don't think the optics would look bad at all.

Social distancing in a Panthers home game shouldn't be too hard.

This might be the only time Florida has a chance to lead the league in attendance.

Plus the quicker we get the economy going, the better. If someone is vaccinated, how quickly does it take effect? Or must they wait for the second round.

The ECHL is already running with limited attendance, half the teams have opted out for the year however. The Raptors have in person attendance as well.

Should anyone be looking at anything Florida has done or is doing since COVID became a thing and said "Wow, that's a good idea!"
