The most important thing he proved is that he can get it done in the playoffs. He powered his team past the 1-2 punch of Tavares-Matthews and was also pretty productive against the eventual Stanley Cup winners. That says a lot.

Panarin too. Pastrnak and also MacKinnon.

Btw — this player card comes from a really good analytics site I subscribe to — here's the link.

Thank you for posting this, but this just further proves that analytics don't tell the whole story. You have your opinion, but I think I will go with the opinion of hockey pundits, media, and Selke voters who see Barkov, Couturier, and Backlund as elite defensive forwards-because they are.

TBF, the Selke often doesn't go to the best defensive forward. It often goes to the best offensive forward who also plays good defence.

And the other defensive trophy, the Norris, always goes to an offensive defenseman as well
The trophy folks live by the old phrase “sometimes the beat defence is a good offence”

UFA forward market is pretty thin now. Just skimming the list and the best players left appear to be Grabner, Athanasiou, Brassard, and Sheahan.

At least the Norris is not specified towards defensive play in its own description, though I've always been a proponent of a Langway award (especially during Reg's tenure).

Am I the only one who can’t read Athanasiou without following it with “Athanasiou too!”?

I know that we don’t have room for him on our team but I would love to have Matt Martin contributing to the battle of Alberta.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Islanders have a deal in place with Martin for after they get the Barzal deal signed.

Jack Roslovic is sort of asking for a trade publicly again. I say sort of because Claude Lemieux tweeted that he wouldn't report to camp without a contract or a trade. The only weird thing about that is his agent publicly suggesting the trade as no other players typically attend camps without contracts in place...
Roslo is allegedly friends with Tkachuk. RH Center with great junior and AHL stats, but has seen a limited role and success in Winnnipeg. I think he is a potential buy low candidate here.

Hamonic for Roslovic at last year’s deadline made too much sense. Idk what I’d part with now, don’t really have any expendable pieces.

Kylington for Roslovic makes sense. Another RHS is always welcome.

Winnipeg always has a need for young cheap dmen, this is a good proposal, potentially win-win for both teams.

Roslovic is definitely a guy we should target. He has all the makings of a top-6 player, just needs a chance.

Now officially asking for a trade
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Roslovic’s agent Claude Lemieux tells me tonight his client has asked for a trade. So we’ll see where this goes...
