It’s a fine deal.

In before the hot takes.

Nice cheap deal for a solid developing defenseman.

Ethan Bear is a good young player for the Oilers but I have reservations about that team if he's their best defenseman. Without Klefbom, he might be.

2 mil a year seems fair. Bit of a mutual gamble for a 1 way deal @ 2 mil a year for a guy with one full season. He's bad in his own end but moves the puck well at times.

His underlying numbers look bad (know everybody loves corsi lol) but the oilers have zero d depth so they need him to play minutes. Expect Bouchard will be thrown in there soon and be Tom Poti-ing it up too with 35 points and a minus 20 every season before you know it.

If bear's game rounds out maybe oilers end up happy here but could also see him sinking badly with klefblom gone and some of their guys getting exposed playing harder minutes against better offensive players.

For the Oilers, one could argue it is better than many deals they have done.

They’re still no good though

Another one of those overhyped guys in Edmonton. Looks like a decent #4-5 two-way guy. Solid deal though.

Where is the money coming from? Every time I check Cap Friendly, Edmonton has zero cap space. Then they sign another guy. I'm confused.

I think Bear has equal talent to Kylington. No Disrespect to him, but I dont think he would have made the NHL full time last year on an actual NHL roster.

With my my viewings of him last year, nothing jumped out. He seemed like a young player who most the time would make the right play but was definitely prone to make some mistakes. Nothing flashy and all the make up of a third pairing D man in the NHL. He still could improve, but this upcoming season he will be expected to fill a bigger role in the team which could expose him. The fact that he received a Calder vote last season was extremely laughable LOL!

Ya that really convenient yet unfortunate injury that wasn’t taken care of in the massive off season he’s had. So now he’ll for sure miss the whole season now until the salary cap is turned off come playoff time. Sure did come in at the right time for the oilers. Just like the Kucherov injury. Teams are finding a way to get around their cap problems. Too bad Edmonton won’t make the playoffs anyways.

Also I think this is one of their better signings. I like Bear, but is he a true top 4 dman 🤷#♂️

Again. It is ridiculous to think that teams like the Oilers or the TB Lightning are breathing a sigh of relief for losing their top players. Edmonton would MUCH prefer to have their best defenseman available to play this season.
