It's Time
As most of you know I've been on and off in California (on mostly), but for the last year I have really gotten away from acting. While the opportunities have come up and there's been plenty of interest, my heart just wasn't in it any more.
I'm gonna stay in Calgary for good.
I guess the idea that there is absolutely no security in acting really sealed the decision for me. While the money is great and the lifestyle is fun, I often felt a longing in L.A. for something else. The city is a great place to visit, but a terrible place to live. There's too many people, there's no community feeling, and there's a vast difference in the way Americans in Los Angeles live their life. It's all work, no play, believe it or not.
Specifically about the acting business, it's an awful biz to be in. Yes, as I said, the money is great, but there are more important things in life. The business is funny, because some times it is great and wonderful and fantastic, but generally (unless you're a Pitt or the like) it's a boring, useless existence. It's sort of like going to a party which you think is going to be crazy and realizing there's a couple people drinking wine and watching American Idol.
So I'll go to school in the fall, get myself an edumication and go from there...
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest CP....I'm sure none of you really care, I just needed to write it down...
Cheers,
Ryan

Hey, you sound like a young guy who had a few good times, care to talk about any wild partys/celebrity sightings and experiences? Sounds like it was fun for awhile but got tiresome.

Dammit! I never thought of that! Hmmmm...Nah, I'll just go with the french pronunciation of it now.
Along the way I've had many a good, good times. It's been quite the ride. Obviously the people I've been lucky enough to work with were all great and we had a blast, but man some of the parties....whew....

I highly suggest that you buy a great tanning bed to put in your new place so that you can keep up that glory tan of yours.

You took some chances to explore different opportunities in your life, Ryan. At least now that you've done the acting thing you can look back with no regrets and say you gave it your best shot.
So how many actresses did you date? Ohhh, and don't forget the pictures

Calgary really isn't too much different to be honest with you. This is a worker bee town.
Either way, you're coming home... you've experienced alot of cool stuff no doubt, but if your heart wasn't in it and you know you belong here.
Welcome home Ryan..

Ryan, I gotta know... it's been a while since I've seen Mystery Alaska but did you play the character who prematurely blew his load with his Girlfriend in the truck??
If you are, i'm sure you get some ribbing for that scene from buddies, but i'm just curious... funny stuff.

Congrats Ryan.
Deciding to move home is a great feeling. I need to do it AGAIN soon. Once I go back I will never leave again.
You've got a lot to be proud of, including having the courage to make this decision.

Ahh, I saw some guys mention the Mystery, Alaska connection in my movie thread a while back. Never clued in that was you playing Weeks.
Finally rented it a couple weeks ago and watched it 3 times before I brought it back.
Huge change of lifestyle but it sounds like that part of your life has run its course. I did the same thing as you in a much smaller scale and I've never been happier. No regrets.

Thanks everyone....
Oh MAN did I get some ribbing!!! I learned early on to say that it was just a piece of acting brilliance.....hahahah. I remember my grandma and the family going to see it when it came out, and I get on the phone with her and she says: Well, you're not much of a lover are you? MY GRANDMA.
There were a lot of cool experiences....I dated Meatloaf's daughter (weird I know). All of us boys on the team went to Russell's oscar party when he won for Gladiator. I held his Oscar. The list of people at that party was insane...Zeta-Jones, Douglas, Jeff Bridges, DeNiro made an appearance (he was at the same hotel) and others. I danced with Nicole Kidman. I played charity hockey games with a bunch of guys like Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, Alan Thicke (haha), Mike Myers, Eric McCormick...
I got to meet Phil Espisito and wore his Stanley Cup ring, that was amazing. Me and Mike Buie (Connor Banks in Mystery) did an interview for MSN way back with Espisito at the after party of the premiere. That was really cool. Hung out with Jennifer Love Hewitt for a while, she was on Party of Five with "Birdie".
There's more, but thinking back, man I had some fun. Never got in trouble though (except in Canmore when we were filming Mystery, Russell liked to fight).
I think as someone mentioned, it has run its course. The biggest thing I'll miss, believe it or not, is the hockey team I played on, The Droogs.
Thanks for all the messages and in due time I would LOVE to get back in the CPHL Jiri, it was so much fun!
Cheers!
Ryan

I suspect with your resume now, you could probably still get some acting work in Hollywood North(Calgary),yes?
but other than that, welcome back.
I was in LA a few months back and really don know how somebody could actually live there, the place is really insane.
Nice place to visit...ya da ya da ya da

If my dad can get a part as a background actor in the same scene with Brad Pitt, surely you could get something more signifigant if there are future movies being filmed here, if you wanted to make some extra cash.
