Haha
Every night in quarantine Tre would call Zary and Pelletier and ask Flames trivia.
Pelletier won. Zary said “Iggy” to every question.

Canada did what they needed to do but a really tough game to judge anything. I liked what Pelletier did on the forecheck and overall looked solid. Zary seemed a bit lost and I believe he also got stuck a bit in the numbers game with Mercer and Tomansino having a great start to the game. As I said earlier really tough to judge and look forward to what happens when the competition picks up.

A casual observation. The USA team has a lot of talent but nowhere near the poise that the Canadians possess.

I don't even see a whole lot of talent. It's early, but so far they look like one of the weaker US teams of recent years.

No.
HockeyDB has him at 5'6" though. I think that would hurt his chances of ever having an NHL career.
Edit: Nevermind, I think I was looking at their back-up goalie.

Is that right? Wow. It’s got to be almost 20 years since Arturs Irbe hung them up
As of last year, the shortest guy was 6’0”, and average was 6’3”
Edit: just saw your update and noticed that the guy playing is 6’0”. Even that is short now.

As of the time of the article :
Quote:
The tallest goalie in the NHL today is Ben Bishop of the Dallas Stars, measuring in at a whopping 6'7". (That's a far cry from the older days of the NHL that had goaltenders like John Vanbiesbrouck who was 5'9" or Gump Worsley who was only 5'7".)
The shortest goaltender right now is Casey DeSmith of the Pittsburgh Penguins who is 6'0".
|
He was the only guy 6’0” even, and the 4 guys who were 6’1” are mostly getting long in the tooth (Lundqvist, Quick, Hutton, Howard)

Accordind to NHL.com, Khudobin, Halak, and Saros are all 5'11". Seven other goalies played 25 or more games who are 6'0".
Koskinen and Bishop are both listed 6'7".
But the point still stands that most elite NHL goalies are big.

This game is way more lopsided than the Canada/Germany game, but the Austrian goalie has been making a bunch of huge saves.

It's very encouraging to see a guy like Pelletier, who missed last year's tournament due to injury, putting pedal to the metal knowing how much this opportunity means.
Calgary drafting towards character. Cool.

I disagree. From the goaltending on out, they may have the second most talented team on paper in the tournament (tied with Russia). That said, they didn’t look like they had the cohesion, or team play that they should, to beat the top teams.

Really weird that this was possible, but it's good they found out in a game where one goal wasn't a difference maker.

Austria is also easily the worst team in the tournament. They have never won a game in their history.

It's an NHL rink. How does that happen? I blame Edmonton.
Also I do not like the idea of having Zegras in the division.

I also blame Edmonton. It's probably their fault that Zegras is in the Pacific Division as well.
