Crazy that Germany will have to play with 3 lines and 5 dmen?

Wow.

Fate loves an underdog?

If they’re competitive it would be sweet for them. Going to watch just in case it’s a German Miracle on Ice.

My guess (perhaps a Captain Obvious guess) is that Stutzle absolutely dazzles. The ice time is going to give him so many touches and his confidence just lifts off.

With Germany in this state, Austria might survive.

I can't believe they called that goaltender interference.

Did anyone else notice former Flame great David Wolf (I think it was him) rocking a Flames hat in the Tim Stützle draft video during the intermission?

For those not able to watch, any who can feel free to launch into any side commentary you want to add some flavor to the tournament. Adding inthe odd player name would help us know who is playing well that might noy end up on the stat sheet.

Shakir Mukhamadullin looks good. Moves well, good instincts and skills.

And Askarov's second world juniors is off and running. That was an ugly goal.

Kuznetsov is a pretty good skater. He maintained a great gap against the rush.

I also note he’s on the Russian PK.

Kuznetsov did not have the greatest first period. Penalty, couldn't handle an easy pass near the end that almost resulted in a USA chance and then a poor pass immediately after.

However, he was very good against Canada and his gap control is excellent. He's also amazing at sticking to one player in the d-zone and not giving them an inch of room to get free

Yeah, it’s true. Turcotte got around him and he took a penalty. And he made another couple gaffes too. But I think he showed good gap control and a good, active stick that period. Overall, I thought he was pretty solid. He’s being trusted to defend some of the best players on the US.

Yes, his defense is superb. Easy to see why he was viewed as one of, if not the best defensive defenseman in the draft.

He looked much better offensively against Canada but hey, it's only 1 period into the official tournament so I'm sure he'll be much better in that aspect as the tournament goes on.

But considering he's there purely for his defense, definitely happy with how he's performed in his end.

For some reason, he reminds me of Jay Bouwmeester.

Russia has been breaking the puck out great - passing into the middle of the ice (in zone or up the ice). That last goal was into the middle to spring a guy in stride. I enjoy this kind of hockey. Use the middle of the ice to break down defences.
