Hope so - the first three weren't as exciting as usual. Marco is a bit cartoonish as a villain so far - no depth.

It was up last night at around 7 already, and man. Episode 4 is one of the most reaction-inducing episodes of any show I can recall. I watched it twice. Unreal episode.

I suppose a show like GoT had a few of those jaw-dropping moments earlier on, but having read the novels I don’t think those epic narrative shocks landed quite the same as they would for non-readers...having not read the Expanse novels to this point, I was on the edge of my seat and exclaiming out loud a few times. Looking forward to the accelerated pacing we seem to be in store for after those table-setting first three episodes.

I watched it last night, it was up when I looked around 8:30.

Holy crap that was good. Even as a book reader and knowing what was going to come it was still super gripping. Probably my favorite episode since mid-way through third season. Some surprises there.

This is going to be absolutely devastating to Earth, it seems like all the spots that hit are huge population centres. Like the entire US eastern seaboard is gone if not by the second asteroid then the follow-up tsunami. Of course no one listened to Avasarala.

Marco Inaros actor did a superb job playing the charismatic maniac. Just so callously justifying the massacre of hundreds of millions and believably doing it. I hate it.

Definitely made some pretty big changes to the books like the number of rocks that fell. I vaguely remember there being a lot more devastation to Earth cuz it was going to go into a full on Nuclear winter because of the rocks in the books. They never revealed how big the second and third rocks were though so it could be absolutely nuts how much of Earth is just completely screwed at this point.

They also killed off Fred Johnson like super early, I was expecting him to stick around for a lot long. Will Bull end up taking over most of the OPA roles and split it with Drummer now?

I'm surprised they made the rocks not as big as in the books. Although that shot of the impact from UN 1 made it look much bigger than the reported one that said 200 kilotons. That's only 0.2 megatons. For a show that is pretty good with the science stuff I was a little surprised by that. I thought we'd be hearing/seeing numbers in the hundreds of megatons.

With regards to Fred Johnson meeting an earlier demise, I wonder if they knew that they'd probably be getting only one final season so they've started changing some stuff up to get us to the conclusion.

Yea that third one next to UN 1 seemed huge. Could also be the actor made a mistake and said kilo instead of mega. Since Ty Frank wrote this episode he's well aware of the science cuz he penned the books.

A 30m rock should put close to a 5 Megaton blast and what we saw Marco paint and launch in the season 4 finale already looked bigger than that. Looking at Nukemap, a 100 Megaton blast 40km NW of Philly wouldn't even knock out windows in Baltimore and definitely wouldn't cause any physical building damage 100km south of that in Cheasapeake bay where Amos/Peaches are. Maybe just me being nitpicky :P

Fred dying early though, it doesn't really seem like the writers are really rushing to wrap things up. They have a whole season to wrap up to the end of book 6. Maybe it was just to give the Sakai and her betrayal a little more screen time. Who knows?

Regardless Marco's managed to decapitate the heads of the OPA, Mars, and UN all at once. It'll be chaos for the next few episodes.

Marco also didn't just fling these rocks straight at Earth, he had them out there for months most likely sling-shoting around other planetary bodies so they could also have seriously devastating speed versus a natural asteroid heading to Earth.
