Yeah, before the news article came out people in the thread were coyly mentioning that if you just listen you can hear people calling his name in the video.
So, I'd never heard of this Ocean character before, so I'm watching the video and keep hearing people yelling 'Ocean! Ocean!"
Is it "Oh Shawn?" but the toning isnt quite right.
Nope. Dude's name is Ocean. Alright then.

Fair, I will retract that statement. However, we all already know why people are acting this way. They don't like it, but it's still not an excuse.

Two things i do admit to though..the number of people at 10 at an outdoor rink. Seems ridiculous to me when they will be playing hockey games with far more than that on the ice at a time in less than a month, indoors at the dome.
|
It sounds like we won't see it at the Dome, but I get what you're saying. However, one is a bunch of randos meeting at a rink, and the other will be a strict bubble situation with mass daily testing and quarantine procedures undertaken at great expense.

Kids going back to school...though i understand the reasoning and even agree with it, it makes all the other sacrifices people have and are making somewhat pointless IMO.

The sacrifices are so that children are able to go to school and restricted segments of the economy can remain open and functioning.

We've never had problems condemning people for breaking the law, especially when it needlessly puts others in danger. Nor have we issues condemning unlawful behaviour of law enforcement. Only one of those things happened here and the party is being rightfully judged.
There's nothing wrong with saying or feeling that laws are unfair, but a person still can't violate them without consequences just because they feel or think that way. And, like it or not, if you have an opinion on something people will judge your character on that opinion. I know some truly wonderful people that are anti-maskers, but I still judge them as selfish and ignorant for their opinions and actions on this topic. And no, I don't feel bad about that.

You know, I have stayed away from posting about my frustrations throughout this whole pandemic. I just try to stay away from it all, but when it comes to the front page of the hockey forum that I love and frequent daily, I just couldn't.

If you (and I'm talking in general now, in reference to you saying that it isn't just YOU) can undersand that it is complicated and fluid, why feel defensive when others are pointing out that in a fluid and complicated situation, there have been decisions made and rules put in place? Once these rules are in place, it has to be enforced or they're worthless, which is what was happening here.
The whole idea is to mitigate risk. To try and prevent spread as much as possible, to try and keep as many people out of the hospital and alive. I'm not going to argue that I have been in agreement with the government's response as a whole, but it is their responsibility to come up with something and then to also enforce that something.
As for WHY you might feel that you and others who share similar viewpoints are being attacked (and this is what I had tried to stay from posting), it is because I/we am/are so tired of the rhetoric that comes from a group of people who act like it is in the best interest of society to balk at everything that comes down, when in fact, it is to satisfy their own selfish, self-entitled, me me me thinking and desires.
I am so sick of seeing in the news protests where groups of selfish individuals get together to protest in a manner completely opposite of what's been put in place to protect those very people.
I am so sick of having to tell dying patients that they are not allowed to have visitors simply because they are not in the imminently dying phase because selfish people can't seem to understand why these rules have been implemented. I am tired of organizing zoom calls or window visits for people and their families to see each other one last time because a proportion of society feels it better to stroke their own selfishness than think about the greater good.
I am so sick of the fact that after 9 months of this, millions across the world dead, we are still trying to argue the merits of putting rules in place to try and limit this thing! We are SO close! SO DAMN CLOSE! I have colleagues who have already gotten the vaccine, I will likely get the vaccine soon, there is hope and light at the end of this and STILL, STILL we get garbage day in and day out about people flaunting and being proud of standing up to authority! It absolutely boggles the mind and in all honesty infuriates me (obviously).
Sigh, maybe it's better to rant once in a while but man, I had tried to stay away for so long. With all that said, I'm not targeting you transplant99, individually, and I hope you understand that. This is my response to all those who would post on FB after being arrested for breaking the rules that they are going to continue the "good fight."

It is just complete ignorance. The rules are in place so the rinks of all different sizes can safely stay open so long as the spirit of the law and the rules are adhered to.
They obviously weren’t.
The rules are really no different than enforcing that a rink closes at 11pm. You don’t like it, too bad, you don’t own the space.
Belligerent ignorance like this increase the likelihood that all rinks get shut down,
Ocean can feel like a big man, inspire others, and as a result 10 year olds can’t skate at their community rink.
Solid work.

LOL @ this not being an organized game, but dude shows up in full goalie gear. Who the ##### shows up for a quick skate at an ODR in full goalie gear?
This guy deserves to get blasted, but feel bad for his family and Ozzy, who will probably have to answer for his brother's idiot behavior.

Looking forward the video Ocean has promised everyone in the next day or so. Can't wait for him to totally exonerate himself and liberate society.

Thread title is not accurate - Ocean was not arrested for violating Covid rules. He was arrested for obstructing an officer and resisting arrest. @CalgaryPolice

Guy is a dooshnozzle and should have been tased. This is one of the reason why you don't send two small female officers out to deal with such a problem. A male office would have had Ocean coughing up teeth for a month because he would have driven him face first into the ice before slappin' on the cuffs, and he would have been right for doing so. The officer that pulled the taser should have given him one more warning then sent the cartridge down range. The video shows he was not being compliant with orders after multiple warnings, so the officer would have been well within her rights to use the non-lethal force, especially after knocking the first officer to the ground. Ocean is damn lucky this didn't happen in the states because the cops would have beat the #### out of him while putting on the cuffs and made sure he tripped a few times on his way to the squad car.

Well...thats pretty strong and kid of Police Brutality.
I dont know about the Female Officers though, I think the guy is a semi-pro hockey player?
Just looking at the scenario I see:
Semi-Pro Hockey player, on skates, on ice against two Cops female or otherwise, with shoes on. They dont appear to have the advantage here.
Now...dont get me wrong, I'd have love to see him tazed because watching people get tazed is hilarious. Also, I'm lazy. I wouldnt be wasting my energy wrestling with him if I could just put him down.
These are all great reasons as to why I'm not a Police Officer, among many others.
I want to hear from that Male Officer in the video who was chatting up the Goalie and appeared supremely unconcerned.

That would be the Bylaw Officer Ocean spent 15 minutes ignoring before CPS was called.

Wow. All for not wanting to comply with insanely ridiculous covid rules OUTDOORS. Tazing him on ice has a better chance of killing him than covid, by a pretty huge margin. And the chances of spreading covid (the virus with 99.97% survival rate) while outside is pretty slim. What a waste of resources and tax money having those cops there in the first place.

Ocean was totally in the wrong here and made a complete fool of himself. His Facebook post just further solidified his stupidity in this situation.
However, can we stop with the in-direct insults to his mother for naming him "Ocean"? Literally by making fun of his name, you're attacking his parents (specifically his mother) for naming him that and his mother - who has nothing short of an admirable story and is beloved by the entire Calgary community - doesn't deserve that.
But yes, Ocean is a complete idiot for the way he handled everything.

The funny thing is, that viewpoint is just going to make these rules need to be in place longer than if everybody just respected them and made some personal sacrifices for a month of lockdown. The more compliant we all are, the quicker these rules go away.
It really bothers me that people think these rules are ridiculous, when for somebody like me, who has had my business closed for 5 of the last 12 months, are relying on them in order to get my livelihood back (or at least some form of it back by being able to open my doors with capacity restrictions).
