Most Exclusive Restaurant in Calgary
Hello,
I will be in Calgary in the upcoming future and was wondering what the most exclusive and expensive restaurant in Calgary would be. Any ideas would help out. Thanks!

Thats a tough question...any preference to the type of cuisine?
Off the top of my head I would say the Chicago Chophouse(esspecially if you like expensive wine) or Caesars Steakhouse.

Honestly, I don't think i've experienced an exclusive restaraunt in this city... maybe on a day like Valentines day maybe...
Some of the Italian places like Il Giordino are nice.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the tips so far. Cuisine is unimportant, I just want it to be expensive and exclusive, something impressive if possible.

I really liked Wildwood when I was there. They have domestic (ie. normal stuff like chicken and beef) and more game type dishes (wild boar, pheasant, and so on). They also have a microbrewery so that's a plus.

That being said, I've generally found that the "hole in the wall" type of places have a more pleasant atmosphere and won't cause my wallet to implode. I love places like "Spiro's" greek food on 17th Ave.

Le Chamiere or something similar. Isn't the Owl's Nest somewhat exclusive, or at the least, tres expensive?

For my money Chicago Chophouse is pretty darn impressive. Get a reservation for the 2nd level(main restraurant seating) very nice place...everyone dressed to the nines. And ohh the wine! If you want to impress(really good if you know your wine) you can purchase a bottle anywhere from $50 to $80,000....a very good wine list.
The entree's are all GREAT. They only have maybe 8-9 entree's, the ussual Steak house choices....Lamb, Prawns, Filet Mignon....etc.
Very nice place IMO

Serious answer:
Italian - Capo. Absolutely the best in Calgary by a wide margin.
Steak - Buchanan's.
French/Continental - Belvedere, Teatro.
The absolute best restaurant in Calgary IMNSHO is River Cafe.
Others: Catch (seafood, steak), Opus on 8th (Asian tapas), Muse (white food), Pulcinella (pizza)
But since you're from LA, the best restaurants in Calgary are nothing compared to LA's. Heck, I can get a better meal at South Coast Plaza than in all of Calgary. I will give exceptions for East Indian and Vietnamese cuisine, however.

Owl's Nest
The Catch
River Cafe
Let me guess, you need to convince some aspiring starlet that you are a big Hollywood producer?

La Chaumiere I believe is the spelling, very nice, French cuisine and the Owl's nest is nicer yet I think. If you want beef, good beef, and lots of beef, go to Caeser's but if you want more variety, try the afore mentioned.
Then if you want atmosphere to boot, try the Palliser. I forget the name of the nice exclusive one on the main floor, not too big, but quite formal, very expensive, excellent food, wonderful atmosphere.

If you're rolling in cash, Il Sogno. Go with the chef's special for 2. Make sure you can afford a $300 meal before attempting this restuarant.

If you want to impress, Theatro's and River Cafe are solid choices...Divino's is ok as well...

Wellington's - Located in the south part of Calgary, just off Macleod Trail. This place is legendary for serving great steaks and other delicacies. The service here is outstanding, and so is the food. There is a dining room and a lounge with big screen TV. They are located at 10325 Bonaventure Dr SE. Open weekdays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and evenings open Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 11 pm and Sundays from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Phone: 403 278-5250. Reservations are recommended, but not required.

No offense Dion but Bonaventure Drive isn't exactly a nice area of town to go to if you want to impress someone.
