Your analysis that Tkachuk had a massive fall off last year sort of supports my analysis. Tkachuk was clearly the Flames best player last season.
Had the other high priced talent played up to expectation Tkachuk could have easily added added 10 pts of 2nd assists... That puts him back up to a ppg.
Neither of us are suggesting that the Flames are locks on home ice playoff team, but it would not be a surprise. Neither was the drop off last season where they were 2 wins away from being a legit home ice team to start the playoffs last year.

Somewhat back to topic... What was the net of games won less games lost because of Riitich and Talbot? How much will Markstrom change that net?
In 2017-18 and 2018-19 Markstom was not a positive difference maker for the Canucks. Last season he was. It was his 3rd year as a #1 . Is he getting better or was 2019-2020 his career year?
Maybe he will steal an extra 2-3 games and get the Flames into the top-4 in the West.
PS... and I realize that we will never know with the all Canadian division

lol he was voted their MVP

Ricardo went out to lunch years ago and hasn't been seen since. I think we can upgrade his status to ‘Missing, Presumed Fed’.

Watching a long winded ricardo post get stepped on by a one-liner never gets old.

Kind of bumping this to ask if anyone knows Markstrom’s career stats against the Canadian teams? Maybe that would give us an idea on how well he does this upcoming season
Sorry if it was already brought up.

Not sure about all time but last year he played 9 games against Canadian teams and went 2-7-0, so not great. Two losses were to Calgary and the two wins were against Edmonton.

Markstrom was the Canucks MVP in most games he played last year, so I don't think his win/loss record is nearly as meaningful in this context compared to other numbers.

He only played against 4 games against EDM last year, 1 game against TOR, and 1 game against WPG.
EDM 4GP, 10GA, 90.8 SV%
TOR 1GP, 3GA, 88.0 SV%
WPG 1GP, 3GA, 87.5 SV%
EDIT:
MON 1GP, 3GA, 90.0 SV%

He usually had his worst games against Winnipeg. Other than that, wasn't ever really why we lost.

Only real negative is he has a history of letting the first shot in
But he would almost always recover

That was pre December 2018. Part of his getting so much better is that stopped happening... and then Demko picked it up this year.

Good thing Rittich has historically had some of his best against WPG.

The FAN had someone on this morning who does goalie coverage (I think, I missed the beginning, and didn't catch his name, but I think the plan is that he is going to be a regular on the morning show. Maybe someone who know more can fill in the blanks.)
This morning he was discussing Markstrom and he mentioned that they track 34 different stats with goalies. He said that last year, Markstrom was the only goalie in the league that did not give up a bad goal - not one. He said that when a goalie gives up a bad goal (one that shouldn't have happened), and it isn't reciprocated at the other end, that team loses 87% of the time (which makes total sense).
I was driving (not taking notes) and the memory isn't what it once was, but he was saying that, over the last two years, these stats had Markstrom as the best goalie, or among the best goalies?, in the league over that time. And that the Canucks had a very significantly positive impact on their results from his goaltending.
He talked about a small change that someone made with him 2 or 3 years ago, which changed his entire outlook and approach. And since that point, it all came together for him and he has been one of the premier goalies in the league, and as I said, the only one last year with zero bad goals, according to this dude.
I don't think some fans are aware of just how good this guy has been for the last couple seasons. And anyone that thinks 'he is on the wrong side of 30' is just wrong. I mean he is 30, which literally is not on the other side of 30, but my point is that he is just into his prime. Sure, in 3 or 4 or 5 years, or whatever, we can discuss his decline. But right now, Markstrom is one of the top 5 goalies in the league.
I am so jacked that we signed him!

If it was Woodley, he is hella smart around goalies. I remember back on FA day he mentioned Calgary being a good fit because the chances or type of shots the Flames typically give up, are a strength for Markstrom. I also can't wait, exactly one week and 2 hours 8 minutes and some odd seconds till the puck drops

(Paraphrasing from memory) He was talking in the summer prior to free agency as well that they could plunk goalies into other teams data sets, and that Markstrom would have been even better with the Flames system and that Markstrom was the goalie best suited for the Flames style.
