It just seems like you'd want to wait for a while before playing it to get the best out of it. Which was also true of Witcher, so, probably could have been predicted.
I guess I'm just willing to forgive more for CDPR for generally not being a ####ty company vis a vis the consumer, unlike basically every other major developer at this point.

I thought the Witcher 2 and 3 were quite polished at release. I don't remember people complaining about them.
This Reddit thread might help you get extra performance if you have an AMD processor. All you gotta do is change one bit using an old school hex editor.

I don't think there was this much talk about the game's bugs, but to be fair the video game world has changed a ton in the last 5 years, to a point where there are a variety of potentially usable resolutions and framerates and visual technologies that provide a much larger array of game experiences depending on what your hardware is. And at launch, Witcher 3 did have some issues with stability and optimization, as well as a number of legitimately game-breaking problems like quest items or NPCs not being where they were supposed to be... and Gwent literally crashed the game on PS4. Add in the fact that the game received, in addition to performance improvements over time, actual free content in the form of extra quests and new assets, and I'd say the best time to play Witcher 3 was several years after its initial release.
So I don't disagree with you if you want to say this is worse, because based on all the press it appears to be. But part of that is just due to changes in the world of gaming and the way games are covered, not to mention the awkward point this was released at when you have new generations of PC components and new console generations simultaneously. The rest of it will hopefully be ameliorated over time. I'm not a fanboy or anything, but I am willing to cut CDPR a bit more slack than other studios for releasing things that frankly, needed more work.

PS5 runs at 1188p (with dips to lower resolutions) while targeting 60 FPS.
Xbox Series X runs at 1080p (locked) while targeting 60 FPS in performance mode, and in quality mode runs between 1500p to 1700p while targeting 30 FPS. The Series X also seems to have a more densely populated city with larger crowds/more people walking around.
Don't forget this is running in BC
Hopefully the true next gen versions are way better
Anyone struggling to run Cyberpunk give Geforce Now a shot
Ultra, RTX, 60 (with Gig internet)
I must say I was impressed
hmmm - you have to own the titles you play right? This isn't a monthly fee for game access - you're paying to have it streamed to you at a quality better than your desktop can manage.

Does that sound correct?
Geforce Now has a free tier that limits you to an hour of game play at a time, no RTX, and you might be stuck in a queue waiting for a server to open up. Their monthly plan enables all graphic options, removes the time limit, and gives you higher priority in the queue. And yes you need to own the game to play it, they currently support Steam, GoG, and Ubisoft store

Reading about issues people are having, they shoulda just not released cyberpunk on last gen consoles. I'm not surprised that it looks terrible on 8 year old hardware, that makes sense to me. Terrible management decision

I agree but it would mean about 3 million less copies sold. Tough sell for investors. Easier to release it and fix it later.

correct although there is a founders membership that is $6/month that allows you to access all the features. If you are "russian" you can buy the game on GOG for $35.
One thing I like about Geforce now is that you actually own the games and can play them on local hardware if you choose now or in the future. Even if your PC is crushing it geforce now allows you to play at work or on your phone ect.
I scoffed at cloud gaming but its certainly getting there especially for a single player game like this. Zero install or patch downloading, fast as F loading. Its kinda crazy...play the big new game on Ultra with a $200 chromebook hooked up to your TV.

It was developed for those consoles though, heck they even made a custom Xbox One X
PS4 has some pretty demanding games that look great, it could have been done IMO
Yeah the “they shouldn’t have bothered with last gen” argument on platforms that have a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t really good water. They just botched the games.

This is a strange game as it's in no-man's land at launch in regards to consoles. Runs poorly on last gen consoles and looks mediocre on next-gen consoles so if you are a console owner you are disappointed either way. I haven't started playing through the game yet as I'm kind of waiting for a patch but it's a shame they couldn't have released a more polished game at launch.

“We should have paid more attention to make the game play better on PS4 and Xbox One” rings really hollow when they intentionally hid console performance from reviewers and the CEO said last-gen performance is "surprisingly good" a few weeks prior to launch

I have played several hours on my PS4 and regret it. It looks like Duke Nukem, but honestly I find the dialog and gameplay super corny so that could be part of it.
I am going to get a refund and reconsider when I get my PS5.
