I just tried it again last night for the 1st time in 6 months. It was pretty terrible.
I really like the diabetes flavored pineapple juice though. Sooo yummy!

Jollibee is for people who grew up on Jollibee. if you were raised on it as a kid (not speaking from experience but we all have similar examples) then it tastes like happier, more innocent times. I don't think any adult would be expected to suddenly convert into a true believer. does anyone eat KFC for the first time in their mid-30's and think "yes, I have finally discovered chicken Nirvana...", never to order Korean chicken again?
the mango pies on the other hand. those fill a void that was left when McDonalds stopped deep frying their apple pies.

Yeah, probably like McDonalds pizza. I clamoured for that for years, suggesting that there was something special about it and I would be over the moon to have it again one day. But I was a kid. People that were adults or even late teens when it was around kept assuring me that I'd be sorely disappointed if it came back tomorrow. I believe them.

This must be it.
My Filipino mother in law is obsessed with it. Neither I, nor my wife understand the hype. Their mango pies are very good though.

Jollibee’s food just sounds gross. Sweet spaghetti? Makes me want to gag just thinking about what it could possibly taste like. I’ll stick to my nonna’s homemade spaghetti....
As for chicken sandwiches, I had Popeye’s classic sandwich a couple weeks ago and found it so greasy I felt a little uneasy. Taste was good though. I actually really like A&W’s chubby chicken.

I can't handle Popeye's anymore due to the grease levels, last time I had it I was sick for the rest of the day. Tried Broaster chicken in the NW instead and was quite impressed, taste is better than Popeye's IMO and it didn't make me sick even though I stuffed my face. That'll be my go-to now for any fried chicken needs

I was watching some reviews on Youtube where people were trying Jollibee for the first time and going gaga over it. It makes me wonder if they’ve ever had fried chicken and burgers before, unless the location in Calgary is just extraordinarily bad?

It is not. From Thailand to Vietnam to the source in the Philippines, I've unfortunately had it several times and it was always the same bland greasy taste. And it was always locals who dragged me there, there's just something about that place that draws in the Asian demographic

Hmm. That’s weird then. It’s like the KD or Chef-boyardee of fried chicken.
With respect to Broaster, if you’re talking about the place across the road from T&T, I thought it was pretty good also, but needed a bit more in the seasoning department. Really long wait, definitely need to order in advance.

The new place in Sundace, iyycburg, has an excellent Chicken Sandwich. Maple in the batter, great toppings. Delish.
And it has bubble tea and milkshakes!

It's just a bad pun using the airport code that makes me cringe. The food might be great but I'm not a fan of businesses that think they're clever putting a pun in their name. They usually don't last long.

Restaurants have been trying to survive in this spot for 30 years. Still remember biking there in summers and going to "Tasty's" Grill.

Asian is a fairly wide term. I doubt most Koreans would go as crazy for Jolibee.
Filipino food is interesting to say the least. I know it is getting a lot of hype in the food community last few years, but I personally don't get it. Adobo chicken just doesn't get me excited. I grew up going to the occasional Filipino BBQ and while I respect the culture of family, I didn't find much food all that appealing. Blood meat anyone?
Goes back to the post above that culture has a large part in the craving. I totally get that part, but unlike Japanese or Thai or even Korean it is a difficult cuisine to get into if not accustomed.

Well Korea doesn't even have any Jolibee's, so I wouldn't think they'd care about it. I could have been more specific I guess, Filipinos and Vietnamese seem to love the place for some reason. I was mistaken on the Thai's though, they don't have any there (yet)

I second this, i tried the fried chicken and the spaghettti, both were straight up disgusting and went in the trash.

Given their clientele around the community and high school, and judging by the menu, I don't think curmudgeons are their target audience anyway.

Not criticizing just helping inform others that Asia is more than one narrow type. I know plenty that see Korean as the same as Filipino, let alone Korea to Japan.
They also see South American lumped as Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
Anyways my wife is Korean heritage and Jollibe grosses her out, but get her a big stinky bowl of Kimchi soup and she is super happy while I crank open the windows.
