sentenced to an additional 20 days in jail for violating a court order to pay $3,500-a-month child support for his 16-year-old and 18-year-old sons since August 2002.
18? Shouldn't the child support stop for that kid at 18?

Probably, but he hasn't paid since 2002. He's in arrears on that kid since he was 16.

Rison just received a nice cheque for $12,000 (CDN) for his pivotal role as a benchwarmer in the Grey Cup.

yeah, I'm pretty sure there aren't many guys in the CFL who can afford $3500 a month in child support.

That's where laws like this become kinda stupid. Sure when the guy was in the NFL he could afford it, but he hasn't played in the NFL since 2000 or 2001 (it's kinda confusing on that since it says he hasn't played since 2000, but that he was suspended in 2001) either way, if he owes 127 000, at 3500/month, that's about 3 years worth of payments, or since about the time he stoped making NFL money. Shouldn't these sorts of things get adjusted based on what the dude is making? Sure there shoudl be a minimum so that unemployed guys can't just duck out on their responsibility, but expecting a guy in the CFL to pony up with $3500/month (American probably) is a little unreasonalbe, especially considering that $42 000 a year is a pretty good salary, let alone child support.

You'd think he'd have learned his lesson when Left-Eye from TLC burned down his house because he didn't buy her a pair of sneakers.

Pay up Andre or bad things happen!
