I'll ease your concern. None of them will have any repercussions from this. Legally, financially or in the voting booth.

At some point this becomes treasonous action.... does it not?
PA basically called it that already, but I was thinking last night this is the grounds of a coming declaration of a civil war.

Pardon my ignorance but where are the voices of the Democratic Party, D states and President Elect?
Someone speak the f up and stop this madness.
Have I missed Nancy Pelosi saying anything? I actually don’t know who but all I hear is the Trumpisitani narrative unless I check in on this thread.

They are counting on the Democrats being eventual pushovers. They were easily pushed over when Bush stole the election. The Republicans have more hurdles this time to steal the election, but the Democrats don't seem to be doing anything proactive.

22 Democratic Attorneys General have filed a brief to the Supreme Court in opposition to the Texas request. It can be found, along with any other filings related to the docket case at

We're a pretty diverse state (VA), that was pretty deep red not too long ago. Look how much Obama, Tea Party Candidates, and then Trump changed us:
As recently as 2010, the republicans held all levels of state government, then they kept putting Tea Party candidates into races they couldn't win, and now the Democrats hold all 3 levels, have 2 Democrat senators and are a safe +10 in presidential elections.
Continually putting up crazy Republicans erodes the party's support outside the deep red counties and states.

New Hampshire’s incoming Republican House Leader Dick Hinch dismissed concerns about undisclosed COVID infections among his members by saying the Legislature skews older and retired, and of course is vulnerable to the same infections as the general public. Exactly! Prior to this, many New Hampshire Republican legislators have refused to wear masks – 47 at one point, over 10% of the House.

Should this be in the “Morons of the pandemic thread”?

Rep. Dick Hinch, a Republican who was elected speaker of the New Hampshire House just one week ago, died of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

A stupid person who dismissed COVID later dying from COVID doesn't surprise me. What surprises me is that New Hampshire's House of Representatives has 400 members.
That's crazy. That's bigger than Canada's House of Commons. The entire state has about as many people as the city of Calgary.

'Factually Wrong': Understanding Texas' Unprecedented Request for Supreme Court to Toss Out Election Results
Quote:
In essence, Paxton’s lawsuit alleges Texas voters were harmed by the elections in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin because officials in those states illegally changed their own rules for voting amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This is vigorously disputed by the four defendant states. Twenty-two other states and territories submitted briefs supporting them.
"Contrary to Texas’s argument, Georgia has exercised its powers under the Electors Clause. Georgia’s legislature enacted laws governing elections and election disputes, and the State and its officers have implemented and followed those laws," Georgia said in its response, adding, "Texas nevertheless asks this Court to transfer Georgia’s electoral powers to the federal judiciary. Respect for federalism and the constitutional design prohibits that transfer of power."
|
Quote:
However, says Hasen, the law professor: “There’s no authority for one state to sue another state to change how that state conducts their elections. This is a publicity stunt.”
Hasen says the lawsuit “consists of rehashed and rejected or new and unsupported claims of fraud.”
|
Quote:
Texas Sen. John Cornyn, a leading Republican, told CNN that “I frankly struggle to understand the legal theory of it."
“No. 1, why would a state, even such a great state as Texas, have a say-so on how other states administer their elections?” Cornyn said. “We have a diffused and dispersed system and even though we might not like it, they may think it's unfair, those are decided at the state and local level and not at the national level."

That is nutty.

I find it absolutely galling that some of the rationale being put forward by groups supporting the Texas coup attempt are using the argument that "there is incredible uncertainty and distrust over the integrity of the 2020 election" when it's been their side that has been deliberately sowing that distrust for months before and weeks following the election. It is such an utterly transparent mass false-flagging exercise.
What a total mess the US political system is and, for that matter, the judicial system as well. It's an unbelievable display of the utter breakdown of functional democracy and governance.

I don't really find it damning of the system. Although democracy and governance in the US is really messed, in this instance it seems to be withstanding Trump and Co's shenanigans. So far, anyway.
My number one takeaway is that most Republicans have definitively proven themselves evil, cynical, and completely undeserving of any attempts at compromise or respect.

US Senator Mike Lee proves conclusively he's an irredeemable piece of garbage:
Sen. Mike Lee blocks proposals to establish Latino and women's history museums
Quote:
"The House of Representatives passed this on voice. The Rules Committee passed it on voice in a bipartisan manner. And tonight, one colleague stands in the way," Menendez (D-NJ) said, adding that Lee's move was "outrageous."
Collins (R-Maine) said that "surely in a year where we're celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, this is the time, this is the moment to finally pass the legislation unanimously recommended by an independent commission to establish an American Women's History museum in our nation's capital."
"I understand what my colleagues are trying to do and I respect what they're trying to do. ... But the last thing we need is to further divide an already divided nation with an array of segregated, separate-but-equal museums for hyphenated identity groups," Lee said from the Senate floor.
"At this moment in the history of our diverse nation, we need our federal government and the Smithsonian Institution itself to pull us closer together and not further apart."
|
"Separate-but-equal" ... go fornicate yourself, Mike Lee.

^Wow...that takes some balls to pull out apartheid rhetoric to deny a museum to women's history. He must not like having sex with ladies, because he sure isn't going to be having it anytime soon.
